Well this weekend im staying off the beer so im going to spend a little time in the garage (working on the Zed that is!!) As all my external trim is showing signs of wear and showing chrome in areas I have decided to re paint them black.

For the best process of this because some of you guys have already completed this task I was wondering what process you used yourself for best possible results.

Did you use a primer and which?

Which paint did you use?

Thanks

A lot of people use plastidip with good results. It gives a near OEM look.

Hi PhilP thanks for this, where would I find this for sale.

Thanks

Plastidip can be bought off ebay. Having used some last week, i dont think im going to use it on the trims, although it looks good, even when dry it has a slightly tacky feel, so finger prints etc is going to be a constant pain. I only put two coats on, so dont think it was because the layer was too thick. Im going for a similar colour match and spraying them with paint instead.

You will need etch primer if you rub the trims to bare metal, then primer, before the top coat.

Cheers Groover I was looking at spraying them as I was curious if brush would leave marks. many thanks

Spray them without a doubt, plastidip is a spray leaving a rubberized finish, but as i said, it still feels tacky and will be a nightmare to keep clean looking.

i always used a good quality satin black which i found gave the best OEM look including the wiper arms and front scuttle tray under the windscreen.

Thanks Znut that was going to be my next question, do I use satin or matt? but you have just answered my question.

flexible vinyl paint. used it on several cars over years. Failing that I can lift the trim off my breaker and send it you...that way you can get back on the beer!

Hi if it's the trim around front screen etc.

I used vinyl wrap on mine and it's been great I did mine in carbon look.

But u could probably buy plain black.

It's been on car ages still looks the same no scratches or chips like paint more then likely will.
