I don't like the black boring covers and don't like the idea of them being uncovered, it's also a feature point of the engine and would look great with my new plenum :-)

I think there nice, ive always wanted mine uncovered but just worried something will get stuck in there. But then again if there going to get dirty all the time, i cant be arsed to take it apart every week and clean it lol.

This was something i looked into in great detail to produce some years ago, the design we came up with to remove them without removing teh top water pipe was quite simple, we even looked at led lights for that optional bling effect for some!

However moudling costs within the UK was sooooo bad it wa sadly shelved. But yes seeing as AMS had them produced they deffo should have altered the design slightly to enable easy removal.

It was obviously cheaper to have a mould made of the existing covers and then copied.

Oh you can buy these for other Jap cars in japan for a few years now, just never the Zed.

Smithy did u do it with the polycarbonate in mind ?

cuze i just been speaking to a guy about vacume forming some from the original covers

Mainly yes however in the end think there was about 6 different companies we approached for ideas and looked at with and without the PTU mountings.

The original covers i had which were modified to be removed without taking top water pipe got binned in the end.

Always worth looking tryinga gain, it's just a case of finding the right helpful company who don't need in excess of a couple hundred initial productions.
