right i was looking for two things regarding this, advice on how to proceed with the rebuild, and a list of parts or consumables Il need to do the job gaskets etc etc.

so after looking into rebuilds cost seem to run from around £200 to £350 each tub.

rebuild kits are around £100 for a genuine garrett kit. plus £63 to balance so around £163 per tub

 

id be perfectly happy to rebuild my tubs myself, as after doing a bit of reading them seem very similar internally to the water pumps i build at work on a regular basis, so i feel i could handle this. although for the saving of about £40 a side the stress and risk dont seem particularly worth it. that £40 is worth it for peace of mind.... so whats your thoughts?

The turbo rebuild game has a poor reputation, and warranties are generally crap, that's cos turbos are actually much harder to rebuild properly than people realise.

poor reputation when done at home or generally? i thought rebuilding them was pretty normal?

Save yourself the risk and cost and just buy these!!

thanks for the link andy i did look at them but im trying to avoid the risk of putting on (no offensive) something thats potentially floored. obviously theyre in great nick but theyre 15 years old. if you get my point. thanks anyways.

if your methodical surely rebuilding a turbo is relativly easy,

mark everything up, take pictures, keep everything spotlessly clean, follow guides to the letter, and get the cores balanced.

 

reckon the biggest problem is getting them primed properly, but would assume to fill them with oil before install,

once engine back in remove fuel fuse and crank engine over after a fresh oil change for a bit to get oil pumping round them properly, replace fuel pump fuse and them start??

recon we can get this done by October gaz mate?

Im going to type this in capitals as a how to guide I was following failed to mention the most inportant thing and a few other guides I later found out don't either.

 

THE NUT ON THE END OF THE SHAFT IS LEFT HAND THREAD! CLOCKWISE TO UNTIGHTEN!

 

I had 4 turbo's to play with and managed to snap two shafts this is tight?:huh:

 

Anyway I think worth doing yourself, I did manage after I realised what was going wrong, be careful you dont cut yourself and its pretty straight dorward even easier if you have a bench grinder/dremal to modify you existing tools.

Just need to send mine off for re balancing now whenever that will be?

Where did you get your rebuild kits and how much paul?

I got em off ebay, not geniune ones I got some stepped real seals too, Ill did paperwork out from garage later, the 2 rear seals were about £30 delivered and the kits where about £55 each Ill get full details soon

Ok cheers im just a bit wary ofthe cheaper kits and the genuine ones are expensive.
