i recently got myself a 1996 300zx na auto and having few problems which i think are related.the steering can suddenly get heavey for no reason and the speedo can either stop or goes bit silly and the trip meter dosnt work.the car is standard apart from a apexi rsm meter which gives the cars speed and rpm.the reading this gives is about half the actual speed reading.i looked at a tread jeff done (thanks jeff) in the faq section about speed sensors and mine looks fine, any other ideas?thanks

The steering is heavier at higher speeds so no doubt they are related, maybe a dodgy mph conversion causing issues?

ya think there related alrite,i dont think there was a mph conversion done its in kph but il take a look any way, thanks

It could be dry connections behind the dash. Mines does it from time to time the stops for a year then does it again. Does ig do it at low speed then kick in at higher speeds

autos have a common fault where the auto gearbox sensor gets damp, and causes it to malfunction until it's dry again. You get no speedo, which causes the speed sensitive p/s to not work, and the hicas light to illuminate and fail too. You either need a new one, or to repair it

Never heard of that one before, as both the auto and manual version have the speed sensor in the same place would be odd for it to only effect auto`s?

Oh and on non turbo zeds the intermittent steering issue is mostly caused by the ecu for the power steering.
