Put my zed in for its mot on thursday....not a happy result.

Failed on front pads...sorted already (fitted new ones)

Drivers half-shaft was loose.....sorted

Popping noise coming from the front passenger wheel under heavy breaking.

This is the one thats baffling me.

The tester said to check the security of all the suspension arms. I did this and didnt find any problems.

Just spent the past 6 hours raking my brains but have no idea where to go next!

Any suggestions?

He failed it for a "popping noise when braking" new one on me!. Obviously something aint right but he should have advised on that one if he couldnt determine the cause of the fault. As he advises check everything is tight, including your wheel nuts.

Get the tester to show where in the testing manual that fails under. It's new to me. Perhaps Paul C who actually tests them can shed some light, I just used to work in the office at a testing station :).

Check your tension rod arms m8y are they standard bushes?Had this on a zed before and found that the mounting point for tension rod wasnt very tight..Worth a look

Ossian is a tester too & is bang on with his reply - unless there is a specific component found that meets the failure criteria then it should be a pass & advise

In fact I am unsure how he has failed it as now it is all computerised you can only select specific items from the testing criteria!

What was the actual wording on the failure?

His actual wording is "nearside front brake juddering severely [3.7.A.2b]"

Im completely baffled by it as it brakes fine, under normal load. Brake heavily and I can hear the noise he's talking about.

All suspension bushes were replaced with energy bushes, and a driftworks arm kit fitted less than 1000miles ago. MeisterR type R coilovers were fitted about the same time.

If I cant find the cause, I might just book it into the garage for its retest and tell him to fix it!

Possible pad/shim movement, in the past under heavy braking or reverse then brake ive felt the pad or something move. New pins stopped it, must have had too much play in the old ones. I didnt have a judder though, so may be a bush.

Been round and spoke to the tester.

He's said that the tension rod is sitting twisted on its bearing.

Gonna try replacing it with a standard one and seeing if the noise goes away.

He said that he tried looking for where it was coming ffom while it was on the brake tester but because the car is so low,

He couldnt see.

Sounds like the testers done the right thing then, not sure how the H&S bods would view trying to crawl under a car when its on the rollers though lol.

Hope you find the cause and get it sorted soon Mikey, its well overdue time for a meet

And we have a winner.

Jacked the car up this morning, wheel off, started to take the driftworks tension rod off and hey presto, the mounting point was loose.

A quick tighten up, wheel back on and went for a test drive. Noise isnt there anymore. Woohoo.

Got the retest in 4 hours.
