I have started a separate thread for Bob's day at the Cadwell Park Time attack Round. Jaffa has already posted up his experience on his own thread.

In contrast Bob n me had a pretty successful day all round. IMO

In the first morning warm up he did a 1.55s lap .

This improved to a finals best lap time of 1.45s

in 2011 that would have won the club class RWD category.

Not this time tho .... as many seasoned competitors had clearly upped their game (and power) over the winter, and the best RWD club driver posted a 1.40.5s lap!!!!

the overall pro class winner posted a 1.27s lap in his Evo. (Gareth Lloyd)

So... We went.

We did warm up seesions.:thumbup1:

Qualified.:thumbup1:

Finished the finals.:thumbup1:

Nothing broke. Nothing fell off. No damage from excursions etc.

Slightly dissapointing........ was not finishing a little higher in the overall order.

Very encouraging.... Several things... 1. We were "on the money " all day.2. We didnt look out of place. We learnt loads about the cars limits and a few of the tricks/techniques needed to be successful.

A speed trap time of 129mph was as fast as the third placed RX7 of very experienced competitor Masood.

Downsides.... Time Attack is VERY competitive and VERY expensive. Bob only applied for this one round(hence his classification of OHW. One Hit Wonder) Costs of entry, fuel and getting to the track and home approaching £1000:blink::surrender:

Will we do it again....Probably not this year:huh:

So in summary.... a great day out. I didnt see anyone else there from this forum but then again I didnt expect to.

Whats next??? TOTB at Elvington. Im already planning ahead on how we can do better than last year.

Running on six cylinders rather than five has got to help:rockon:

Car doesnt need anything doing before TOTB which in some part is due to Bob's within limits driving skills and also to Dan Turner at Advanced Motorsprt Engineering for his continued engineering and preparation skills.

As usual I would like to thank Bob for his usual generosity that alows me a day out at trackside with food n drinks thrown in all for free.

I like to thinkI bring something of value to these days out even if its only to lug my trolley jack around and pour petrol in the car! :clown: (see pic)

Anyway I took a few pics of what we were up to and then some of other stuff that interested me in between sessions... Enjoy

BTW I NEED that 6R4 METRO:drool:

how did that gtr from severn valley do i saw a write up about that car bit of a monster by all accounts? saw a 6r4 a few years ago at a rallye awesome beasts.

fair play to the pair of you and thanks for posting up info and pickies:bow:

IMHO all the various z/zx forums/clubs should make a concerted effort to have a joint meet at one of the events that the Zs are competing in to support the drivers the same as used to happen in the HSCC series:thumbup:

Good results and was it his 1st time on that track. done well as the others will have more experiance.

But that Evo must of been rapid

is there a hp limit or is it anything goes??

Yep its a full monty monster.. Complete severn valley team in attendance on the day. Digital trackside timing. Walkie talkie communication etc etc. BIG BIG budget. And he is entered in CLUB class!!!! I heard a paddock figure of £60K on engine work. Cant confirm or deny that.

I was beside the team leader on the pit wall for one of the sessions.

How did it do........ 4th overall in club class. Best lap 1.37s

Fastest club class thru the main straight speed trap with a 148.8mph pass!!!

For any of you who dont know Cadwell that is one SCARY speed along what is laughlingly known as the main straight:laugh:

Great stuff Bob & Pete, wish I could have been there to watch but couldnt make it this weekend. Great pics BTW, looking forward to vids!

Thanks Dave.

FYI we have been to Cadwell 6 weeks ago on a track day shakedown

Bob did a 1.45s lap then.

The BIG difference with time attack is you have 15 minutes to do it in and there are 20 + other guys out on track trying to do the same thing at the same time.

On a track day you have all day to get one hot lap. Everyone seemed pretty civil and well behaved on track but its only a narrow track.

That Evo IS rapid... believe me... Bob's lady Martina came trackside for the final two sessions and although she had never been that close to cars doing that type of speed before in her life even she remarked how quick it was.

All the cars go a little slower on the pit straight where I was to the top straight in the country but even so they are passing within 2/3 metres of you at around 120mph. Its quite an exciting experience. Martina was apprehensive at first and jumped back on the first pass of cars at full chat.

The main limit is the size of your wallet.

The other limit on track is your ability and whether the car is fitted with a "wallet brake" or not.

Bob's car and many others have one fitted. Others seeminly dont.

Thanks for the write up Pete. It was a good weekend with lots of learning. I'm fairly happy with the result and when you consider that the cars we were competing against are serious racers and weigh up to 600kg less than mine it puts things into perspective. I'm happy that I chose to stick to the principle of fully road legal car keeping the interior in place etc and not going mental with weight saving or putting 'carlos fandangos' on (showing my age there lol) or the dreaded ironing board. I'm not gonna say never gonna happen but not this year anyway :)

When we pulled in it was a simple check of tyre pressures, a look at the fluid levels, and fuel up ready for the next session. I gotta say I marvel at the amount of tinkering it takes to get those extra couple of seconds lol.

Anyway here's a video showing the final. I made a few mistakes and the first lap you see was my fastest. Maybe could of stole another second or two but my rear brakes are coming on too hard and tend to bring the rear out a little so no trailing the brakes into the bend - I was a little early on the brakes too the barriers just before the mountain are not very forgiving. This issue with the brakes might help when we do TOTB as the handling circuit is very tight and locking the rear to bring the back into the bend might save half a second.

Once again thanks to Pete for all his help and support. Naturally I have to thank Dan Turner of AME who has managed to build me an engine that can mix it with the best but has the kind of reliability which I need.

looking good out there bob. wa sthat the svm gtr that came past? what ever it was it was fecking quick! the long down hill straight looks scary!

Yes that was a cracking motor but here's a video of the class winning evo3 with a bit of 300zx rear end for the first few minutes lol

plus some pix by the time attack official photographer and gives you an idea of the quality of the competition

I went to the Anglesea trackand there was a 1000hp supra think it was envy performance i think, it was a black one i know that lol!!. didnt look that quick as it was very smooth then all the 4 pots seemed rapid. most proberly due to the sound but that was a great day out.

They did a 2 hot laps then a 3rd to cool down then off they went again. the evos and scoobys didnt even have rear bumpers on because of the drag etc lol!!
