For a while now, particularly from start up, it's as if I have no PAS, really have to work the wheel to turn.

I've read the various threads regarding this problem and have still to get the car up on my mate's ramp to see if it's the UJ that's sticking.

But here's thing, last night went out in really heavy rain to get some petrol and the steering was absolutely fine this morning. Then I recalled that when the problem first arose, it was 'cured', for a while at least, after I jet washed the car.

Is it possible that the rain/water acted as a lubricant?

All comments welcome as ever.

Regards

Ronnie

I have a similar problem of the power steering kicking in and out randomly. It's interesting in the middle of a corner! Not sure where to start...

Then you have to resolder absolutely everything and possibly the other side of the board too

low power steering pressure and the wet ground allowing less road friction?? i doubt it but possible??

  • 2 weeks later...

I've checked it all.

New clocks are in and redone all the soldering.

Clock flies up over 180kph and back to nothing.

Still no odometer movement either.

Defo speed sensor.

Is it possible is a series related issue now?

Took the clocks from a series 1 board/housing and put them in my series 2 as the plugs didn't fit.

Massive respect to all the guys who helped too.

Cheers.

Has that fixed your power steering issue as well?

I've had a similar issue for a while whereby the speedo will bounce between the correct speed and zero, the odometer will stop working (while the speedo is at rest) and the power steering is intermittent. Funnily enough this issue only occurs when there's been lots of rain (e.g. over the past couple of months) and while we had the dry spell it didn't happen at all.

im awaiting the outcome to this aswell cas mu speedo comes on then goes off then struts around like a holigun on steroids its all over the place then next its working fine.
