Its not fair the fact I have to pay more tax than my fiancée in her C1 £20 per year. She uses the car all the time and must wear out the highway more and generally must take up more resources than my car and create more pollution 'overall' . Fair enough if I used it as often but I don't. :cursing:

I think it should be tied into the MOT, That way it could be directly linked to your actual mileage.

The more miles you do, the more you pay! simples

yup agreed! this the fairest and most sensible way to do it. but then in reality our road tax isnt spent on the roads at all so it will never happen.

Nope, I wouldn't be happy at that  I do 20,000+ mls a year just commuting to work, £10 a day if I use my daily drive - £20 if I use the Zed  (which I don't very often do)

But its the only way to be fair. as a old grandad will pay the same road tax as you but might only clock up 500miles just to get his paper.

It would work the same with petrol. the more you drive you pay and it will also work on the emmisions because of the mpg.

The best way I find to look at this is that the more sh*t your car is the cheaper the road tax - I dont mind so much about paying more road tax than my girlfriends diesel Golf thinking about it this way!!

Tax for a zed is pretty cheapy the grand scale of things. Tax for my ML cost £790!

It should definately be mileage based though

Its just not fair!!! my car is going to be a nice garden ornament whilst the c1 will be using more of the road whilst the Z sleeps until a nice day. What pisses me off more is that cars that have under 100 C02 have NO TAX. These cars still do 0-60 in around 9ish seconds burn diesel and have quite chunky tyres and pull on the roads more than my car overall. Quite happy to pay my share but feel I pay more and even supplement these eco cars ( which are not that eco, as mine uses allot LESS fuel, road etc etc) Maybe I should start an official petition or something.

I am more than happy to pay the equivalent tax of a bigger engined sports car for my actual usage.

(In all fairness I cane the C1 when I drive it and when I use the Z I take it easy)

I've just paid £460 for the Q7:no: The Zed is cheap in comparison

I think that's a quality idea, I would clock my car and pay next to nowt :)

It's all a racket - everyone has been brainwashed into the whole "green" idealism and successive governments have just jumped on the bandwagon and used it as a means to raise taxes. Which, to be fair, the majority of the population has accepted - toss them a fish and watch them clap. The present system was brought in by the ever popular Gordon Brown - and is pretty much a tax on wealth since the more expensive (and nice) the car, the more road tax falls due.....

...but if the system was trully fair, road fund licence (as is is supposedly called) should be a fixed price for everyone and then the real duty should be on fuel - so everyone does really pay as they go....

....But what really gets me is that the poxy old rust buckets that tree huggers drive (eg the Citroen 2CV) get away with less tax than either of my cars (because they have small engines); yet they alegedly polute the air far more, since their engines were designed in about AD400 before catalytic convertors were but a twinkle in the inventor's eye:blink:

Richard:shifty:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
