Get your money back as that is not road legal and not part worn if you took them to be put on they would refuse to because of the state it is in

If its for a road going vehicle get rid of them and buy new tyres as I don't fancy you being on the same road with me and having your insurance made invalid when you have a blow out and smash into my zed

This was discussed the other week most tyre fitters won't even fit part worns anymore. There is no history or guarantee of why they are being sold as part worns. If they refuse to take them back you may learn from it.

Well he cant refuse a refund theyee the wrong size and not fit for purpose so the advert is disdescription. Infact he could be sued. I havent fitted them, ive alreadycontacted him via ebay asking goe a refund on the reasons abive.

I get part worns on both my cars, had around 10 of them so far. (over the course of the last 2 years) there's a garage near me that sells them, they're so much cheeper than even the most budget of tyre they do, and the majority of the time they're good brands. probably couldn't tell the difference between new ones. I got 4 Yoko's for $40 each

But yes in this instance I agree, i'd get my money back.

im in the process of getting a refund, ebay stipules

Used: A tyre that has been previously used, but remains in good working condition with sufficient tread remaining to comply with the seller’s local legal requirements for on-road use (if applicable). See the seller’s listing for full details

so essentailly theyre not road legal so theyre not within the description. and they were advertised as 35 and theyre 40s anyways i dunno wghat the outcome will be but i spose in reality he hasnt got much to stand on theyre not as listed are they lol. ive emailed him back and tried to be resonable.

Being the devils advocate here :), So when you buy a second hand car do you have all the tyres replaced with new ones because there is no history or guarantee of their condition, they may have been potholed, kerbed or god forbid they could even be part worns just fitted cause the last owner wanted a cheap fix before selling the car.

p.s. No I dont fit part worns, though I have done a couple of times many many years ago.

That is a very good point!!

And like you I'd never buy part-worns myself. But the Ebay ad was clearly misleading so Z32bolt should be entitled to his money back.... Good luck mate!

Omg again you don't normally buy cars that have been wrapped around a ***king lamp post that is the issue with part worns not a little running up the side of a kerb. As said before its what makes your contact with the tarmac if you wanna chance it go ahead but just don't ***king hit me when you have a blow out to all of you that use part worns.

If you can't afford the upkeep of decent tyres on a zed if it is a zed then where else are you gonna start cutting corners. As stated recognised tyre fitters won't fit your part worns due to the fact of no knowledge of what car that tyre has come from and in what state.

chill please.

There is a company close to me (Northampton) that deals in partworns only, that come from company cars as most company cars like to have their tyres changed around the 5mm mark, nothing physically wrong with them. also being a tyre fitter for a while back when i was younger. i can tell you now that if there are flaws in the tyre due to where they came from they are rather noticeable.

The biggest problem with any second hand tyre would be if they have been driven while flat and damaged the inside tyre wall. out side areas also need to be looked at, before and after being fitted to the alloy. side wall damage / side wall bulging are major concerns and should be avoided and the tyre disposed of. but dismissing partworns based on "no knowledge" of where they came from. when they can come in very handy sometimes, is just plain wrong.

Anyone can have a blow out, doesn't even need to be a part worn to do so. you might catch the curb and pinch the tyre wall on a brand new tyre and blow it out the same week, you run no extra risk by using a unknown part worn if you check the condition your self. they are pretty well made.

Lots of people use part worns, most use them to bridge the gap between getting paid and then getting a full set of rubber. the most important thing anyone can do when buying a part worn is to inspect the tyre them selves. you will soon notice if something is out of place.

Oh and from my experience of working in tyre fitting environment, throw enough spare cash at a tyre fitter and they will change almost anything with in reason, but ive never seen a tyre fitter refuse to fit part worns unless the tyre its self was noticeably damaged and would put the customer at risk.

I buy part worns for my bmw 5 series

the tyres are goodyear runflats 18" 245/40/18 and at £220 a tyre not cheap

now the problem i have is the tyre wear in the bmw they always wear on the inside, i have bought a set of four new tyres and when i found 4mm of tread left in them with the insides worn through to the canvas i thought im not wasting money like this again,

i spoke to the tyre depot and also bmw themselves and they said its normal to wear on the insides i really didnt think this would happen on a 2009 bmw,

anyway the part worns i have bought have 7mm tread in them and about £80 to £100 each all inspected and tested

even my tyre depot will inspect them before fitting them

yes its true i have no idea about the history of the tyre but they are inspected and tested before i have them fitted

i honestly dont see the poing in shelling out big money for tyres that will not last there full life, i'e wear down evenly to say 2mm

yes there are many tyres on ebay used and part worn from individual sellers that have not been tested and as above not road worthy,

if going down the part worn route then i would find a good dealer that sells them inspected and tested

its a very valid point from gonzo and you do get what you pay for and you have to remember that your tyres only have a 6" square foot print on the road you need to depend on them footprints at all speeds and braking

this is only my 2p worth i use part worns but they are fully tested with about 7mm tread on them with no trouble at all

i have purchase part worn tires for years now .. all different sizes and i never had a problem at all ..

but its all ways been my local tire fitter that i have had them from and I've all ways picked my own

the only tires i try and avoid is Cheap ones &remoulds i had a bad experience with

remoulds are banned for private vehicles if i remember correctly.

yeah i know that .. but this was years ago ... and it was a wheel off a car in the scrappers ... ... not a smashed one it just been driven in

i had a pair but one of them pop on me

4 wheel trailer carrying some slabs it ripped the out of snapped the Axel and sent the trailer flying .. all the slabs over the rd and on the car ...

wrote the car off ...

I have the same problem with my 530 with tyre wear on the inside. BMW said put an extra 2 psi in the tyres. The wear is a lot better..

Move away from runflats? 19" wheels with tyres are about £650 - 800 and then the tyres are cheaper.

For me tyres and brakes are the most important thing. My kids are in the car and therefore I never skimp. If I cant afford good tyres and brakes I dont buy the car..

Never really had a problem with part worn's. On my second lot now and generally get just over a years use out of them... Just gotta be careful tho to check those ebay adverts and make sure the tyres are not punchure repaired or have any side wall defects in them... Ordered some tyres before and noticed they had been punchure repaired even tho it didn't say it in the advert... This is ok as it had been professionally done but wouldn't wanna be doing silly speeds in the Z...

Would love new tyres but tyre prices have gone through the roof recently and even part worn's are now quiet expensive but better paying that and staying legal than having a big fine and points on your licence for bold tyres.

It has put me off part worns tbh. But it was only a stop gap, I think im gonna wait till next month and bang out 200 odd quid on somee faulkens ....

I'm with Gonzo on this.

300bhp rwd + part worns? ehhhhhhh.... NO!

I would never buy part worns. Similarly i would never buy used breaks, suspension parts etc. Too risky for me thanks.

I would also add that a good set of tyres are money well spent. The differnece a good set of tyres can make is incredible. Way more noticeable than any induction kit, de-cat pipe etc etc.

Nope, I bought one this year for my civic before i partex'd it, same price as a part worn, that was 205/40/17 so not the average tyre.

hmm must be something they like to babble about in the tyre trade then lol as thats where i heard it.

possible it could of just been an old one they hadn't got rid of. but it is a pretty reputable shop though.

I'll be honest I'm struggling with this view

ie. every time a secondhand car is purchased the first port of call is to go straight to the garage and get new brakes/tyres etc fitted because the new owner doesn't know the history of the components. I don't see the difference between those parts fitted to a secondhand car and those secondhand parts bought individually.

and the difference in quality of tyres surely has nothing to do with whether or not they've been fitted to a car previously. I'll give an example of this, I bought a set of rims off Zedworld a while back that had Pirelli P Zero's fitted, those P Zero's went on 3 different sets of rims and they were fantastic (all secondhand/part worns).

I agree that brand new budget tyres should be avoided (I had some fitted to my Scirocco several years ago) and they were absolute dog w**k! Brand new but shockingly shite...bordering on dangerous

So I would be hypocritical to say that part worns are a bad idea on a zed because I don't think that to be the case (in fact I'm looking at some now and trying to wangle a deal from a mate for 90 Federals....all part worn!.....skid tyres but still part worns), however I would agree 100% that shoddy part worns that are down right dangerous, as described earlier in this thread, should be avoided at all costs and anybody that does drive with them fitted (a) is a complete f**ktard and (b) should face the full wrath of the law

however I disagree that an individuals budget shouldn't dictate whether they 'have the right' to drive or own a zed, I agree that if you are on a budget that you're first priority should be that the tyres/brakes and all other essential parts and components are up to scratch before venturing out on the public highway, however just because a zed owner can't stretch their budget to a full set of 888's or uber expensive soft compounds doesn't mean that they should re-consider their zed ownership...

just my 2p worth

the place i buy my part worns from told me he has had more people come back with blow outs from new tyres than part worns, doesnt get many blow outs from either but it does happen more from new

the ones i get are pressure tested and x-rayed before being sold, new ones arent, they only check one or two tyres per 1000 made, who knows if any of the new ones have defects

if it makes you feel better buying new tyres then thats fine, but being all self rightious and spouting off about crashing into one another by fitting part worns is silly IMHO
