ok its decission time ive got my uk auto tt and i love it but ever since i was about 12 ive wanted an r33 gtr but now theres a problem i cant decide wether to keep the zed and modify it to around the 400 mark or sell up and buy a gtr.

personaly a cant stand the gtrs interior and i love the zed's one its a million times better in every way

power wise i know the gtrs easyer to tune to high power but a 400hp wouldnt exactly be a slouch

gtr has the obv benefit of awd so its gonna be a more stable car im not planning on doing any track days in either car but awd would be nice on wet roads etc

finaly i do tend to go on long mway drives as my mums in cornwall and my bro lives in huddersfield and as ive never done one in a gtr i dont know for sure but id guess the zed would be more comfey

i rekon to get the zed to 400hp id need the manual conversion, injectors, a good map, and maybe stronger turbo internals and a few other bits and bobs plus by the time jeffs fixed other things that no doubt will turn up i rekon itll cost about 3k so it would be cheaper than a gtr

any thoughts or advise would be great and i know its a bit foolish posting this on a zed forum but im pretty sire u guys can be fairly unbiased!!! lol

cheers nick

not on about power. was on about looks and cars being dated. and yes i hate the cosworth. i would take an na zed over a 400hp escort anyday. Its not always about power.

A DB9 or a r33 Hmmm i know which most would want to own reguardless of the speed.

As for a 400hp cosworth vs a 500hp zed off the line maybe. rolling start is has no chance. then take into account power loss to all 4 wheels etc

for me its all about power!!!!!!!

the escort cosworth weighs about half a ton less than the z. I think a full weight z would get destroyed. Can't believe you don't like them, from what i've seen you write i thought that would be right up your street! One of my most favourite cars ever, holding there value very well now as well.

I thought the RB26 was good for 500 bhp on stock internals. Just filter, exhaust, increase of boost and a remap is needed but I stand to be corrected.

what your saying is correct apart from that the skyline is good for 600bhp on stock bottom end!!!:cool3:

so your looking at around 5k in total why not just spend that on a built vg lump, whats the advantages to using the rb26 lump instead surley spending 5k to mod the vg would give more power than a stock rb26 i know there very tunable but surely your not looking at over 450hp or am i way off?

The torque on a RB26 is a lot better and can handle A lot more power then the VG engine, also they are a lot more reliable than the VG, this is a fact as I've blown over 10 VG lumps.

450 bhp is often more then enough on a Zed but I broke that barrier quiet a few years ago!! what can I say RB26 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did you get for it mate?

Cars at the bodyshop now getting the turret sorted and splitter fitted.

How have you managed to kill so many vg blocks? What went on them not wanting cause things to kick off but it sounds like they werent built very well. More details please, im sure yowser was explaining a while back yhe vg is actually power to power a better engine format. There are vgtt lumps out there with over 300k on a stamdard block. I know they have a reap for being weak I blew one myself but its mostly due to poor modding or servicing.

Exactly what I wanted, turned out to an apexi fc, and forged bottom end!! found a whole load of paperwork from abbeymotorsport squashed in the glovebox!!! kinda gutted now but stuck by my word and sold the car!!

Basically hard driving, I do most of the work myself on Zeds if I get stuck Jeff at Zedworld would allways be there for me!! but cut a long story short I rag the living daylights out of em!!!!!!!!!! I shot a piston out the bottom end once on the A38 at 177 MPH that was fun!!!!!!!!!

Im in Birmingham mate.

Are you selling your Zed to buy a GTR? Maybe we could do a deal??

I love GTRs however whenever I show a picture of one to my Mrs she says

"I don't like it"

I say "why its awesome"!!! she says "Nope, Its a scally/chav car"

She is VERY fussy though. Her old man has a Maserati and she likes the look of the Z.

The only thing which would put me off a GTR is skyline tax. As far as I know there's nowhere where you can get a straight exchange RB26 for £1500 fitted.

If I were to get one it would be a R32GTR. Much better looking machine. R33 looks a bit Fat

hmmmm tempting i was thinking of keeping the zed until id decided if i like the gtr or not but i guess it would kill 2 birds with one stone plus if i really couldnt live with the gtr (which lets be honest is unlikely) i could just sell it on

lol my mrs used to be the same until i just ignored her and went out and bought a gts-t now she loves em!! i think for some reason they dont seem to photograph very well so they look a bit boy racerish but in the flesh they look like a differant animal,

i love the looks of the zed and they go like stink but you could say to anyone wether their 12 or 65 ' ive got a skyline gtr' and the reaction is always the same 'really!!! oooh take me out in it' lol with the zed you get ' oh whats that then ' not that its a bad thing and when they see the zed you always get a good reaction (appart from 1 green eyed mate who went with 'ooooh... aint it flat!)

I really do my Mrs head in with cars all the time. Off to the pub later with the Mrs and I am sure the main point of discussion will be Cars. One of my mates even started posting evo magazines through the letter box at strange times. She LOVES that.

The Skyline GTR is an awesome car granted. I have to admit I quite like people staring at mine and obviously thinking what the F*** is that ??????

I would love a GTR at this time of year purely for grip reasons.
