Finally thinking about fitting uk clocks, but i need help please:

My car is a strange model, possibly series4?

Is a very basic spec,97 slick-top TT, no toys at all.

Which UK spec speedo will be a straight swop??

I ask this cos i think the instruments went digital control on later models or have i lost it??

As far as i know my car reads in Miles on the speedo and odometer, but dont want that crappy sticker on there, that looks like a paper clipping and felt tip.

Two other qs, my model has no boost guage, how can i wire this up if i can fit the UK dials?? (It will be fitted to the uk one, and will look like a fualt if not wired and its nice to have a boost guage :0))

Without sounding like Arthur daily, how can i adjust the mileage on the odometer i fit or can i swop the original over, im sure who converted originally put the correct mileage back on, ;0), ;0).

Many thanks for your help

I'm sure groover can give you a full answer but I'm pretty sure that none of the UK clocks will be a straight swap.

No straight swap im affraid so you will have to do some mods. As above Groover has a how to somewhere

Any UK spec speedo will go straight in. The instruments (heating controls) were digital on series one and two, but went to manual control after that. I think I am right in saying that on later TT models, they also dropped the boost gauge off the clocks, but not too sure what year they did that, sure someone will let you know.

You won't be able to plug the instrument panel in though mate, the connections are different.

Yeah, realised after I wrote the post, now deleted....lol....:whistling:

Did you just delete that post?

bet you did just to make me look a nugget

It's ok buddy, I'll admit to my c**k up.....:whistling::wheelchair:

It can be done but you have to fit the Speedo into your binnacle,as said, not straight forward but easy enough.:cool3:

I have found this out the hard way. Got the different set of connectors from Kinugawa turbo. Then splied then in onto the old connectors just in case I switch back.. easy job them...

There is nothing strange about a series 4!!

Probably nothing wrong with your clocks and best left alone, S4 are much harder to come by than S1 AND S2

Not sure what you mean with crappy sticker?

I have no boost gauge on my S4, I have an aftermarket one on the A pillar and works a treat and shows well over 14psi so good for future mods.

Mileage barrel can just be teased out with care and adjusted to the correct mileage that appears on all your service records, mot's, etc.

Or, you could try the Ferris Bueller method

I really would have liked the boost guage in the cluster so it looks factory and not so street racy.

TThe crappy sticker comment was that like alot of imports, thay dealer coverted the speedo drive and just stuck a sticker over the K of KMPH to achive the MPH and looks a bit crappy.

Apart from that as you say the series 4 is fine, just nice to have the UK dials as it would have had if sold here.

Has anyone done a series 4 to uk dials???

So far from what everyones said ineed to:

Fit the UK speedo dial in my j spec cluster?

not worht the hassle of the plumbing of the instrument boost guage, go for the a pillar?

Anybody got any more tips/cheats?

Trying to make the car nice and finish it ready for use in the spring, shes only done 14K!!!

Cheers

Many thanks for the info.

As soon as I get a chance ill take a look.

In essence I just need a UK speedo, this will also give me the boost guage that i can connect up?

Does it matter which series Uk instruments i buy?

Cheers

Given your car would have originally had an airbag, and in light of the new airbag mot rule, if you still have an airbag it may be worth if you are changing to uk clocks to get one with an airbag light.

I suspect but haven't proved it that the uk series 3 clocks might be a direct swap for the later series
