I’m not a great DIY person, but in my quest to remove my "table top" spoiler on my 93 zed, I need to remove the plastic internal side boot lid trims, but before I can do this, I believe I need to remove the hydraulic strut arms ?

I don’t want to guess at how to do this and beak anything. Does anyone know the procedure to remove these arms ?

I know spoiler removal has been covered before, but it always seems to be for the earlier glued on version

Thanks,

Tim

I unscrewed the balljoint from the tailgate, iirc I used a 14mm spanner. You need to be careful though as they are under tension.

Yes it bloody hurts when the bootlid drops on your so be very careful as it's VERY heavy!

do it with the boot closed, just make sure your face is well away from its extending properties. as it shoots open (not the boot the rod). to put back on Lift the boot lid and stick it in and start doing it up, helps if you have 2 people for the job to do it safely

As said, get someone to give you a hand cos the boot is very heavy!! I would do it with the boot open and one person taking the weight while the other undoes the bolts. You could always use a piece of wood as a support too.

just to confirm yes its a 14mm open spanner you need.

I wouldn't remove when they are fully closed, just asking for trouble is that, you will almost have the threads out and they will just force out that last bit, before you are ready.

Get someone to open the boot or use a piece of wood and then undo, I will also state it is unbelievably heavy in situ so be ready for that.

Fitting, just open and push up as wide as you can and you will find the struts go on, just, fully open :thumbup1:

I've done it twice when they are closed, its not asking for trouble if you take precautions, IE getting your head out the way, hold it with one hand and undo that last bit, it comes out and you can just about slow its rate of extension. just make sure your not looking down the barrel so to speak, then remove the end off the tail gate. common sense goes a long way when your on your own doing things. forgot to add undo the end attached to the inside of the car first. or undo the end on the boot lid that way it springs out facing away from you, just make sure it doesnt hit your rear screen by gaffer taping a towel to it, just dont take too long or the gaffa tape will leave sticky marks on the window that take time to get off.

When i removed mine i used a 2x4 piece of wood and propped the boot open.

I do agree though the boot does weigh a ton.

i think its to help put the traction down on the rear wheels
