had a close call today, took it really easy on a 10 mile drive back from cardiff earlier, but couldnt resist giving it a bit of welly on the final straight home. if only i had checked my mirror before i did!

blue lights followed me up the road, and i was pulled.

"wot the hell was that all about "he said, desperatly trying to hide the grin from my face from the rocket propulsion i had just had, i got out and appologised. a quick breath test later (all clear amazingly) and a *****cking and i was back on the road.

got caught doing 73 in a 60 zone a few months ago and am waiting to go on a speed awareness course (to avoid the 3 points).

so...................... how times have we been caught speeding?

Got caught by a camera van when driving the works 3.5t pickup, speed limit was 60mph so I went past at 55........then found out I should have been doing 50mph due to class of vehicle :(

Got 3 points and £60 fixed penalty.....bugger!

One got a ban 4 yrs ago unmarked scoda rs he tailgated me so i floored it lost he for dust estimated 110 mph as he said he could f...iking couldnt catch me to get real speed, got 2 months ban £200 fine, lucky really.

never had any points, couple of close calls that I've talked my way out of, but thats it :)

Heh! Us girls can just sit in the car giggling and playing stoopid! As long as you get stopped by a male copper not another woman. Always works!!

lots!!!! i have been caught about 6 times but have only had 6 points as i managed to get out of the others. If you argue them they tend to drop the ticket.

i do 80,000 miles a year mind so im on the road lots.

I've been pretty lucky in 15 years on the road despite having a Z TT and a KTM 950 bike (100bhp) and our lasses MR2 to play in/on.

Unfortunately I got a NIP through the post a few months ago, cr@p what speed had I been doing??

Yup 50mph in a 44ton Artic on the A1 when I should have been doing 40mph. WTF!

Oh well, learnt something. Those stupid Gatso's aren't that stupid. Some can be setup to look for long vehicles. :sneaky2:

I got one in 1996 - speed camera in London. Living up Yorkshire, I had never seen one before and didn't know what the flash was lol.

Maybe now the car is FINALLY handling better, I may get one ... but touch wood I don't !

Never had one but I've had plenty of close calls where you get that feeling something's not right and slow down just to see the traffic boys with the laser out.

I did pass a traffic cop with his laser thingy a few days ago when I was sure I was 10 over the limit but never got pulled for it, I'm guessing either it was my lucky day or a speeding violation is in the post for Monday.

I'll soon see.

your not trying hard enough!

I got caught doing 86 in a 60 in my 1.3 Astra ages ago. if it makes any difference it was a warm dry day with nobody else about and a wide A-road but unfortunately a cop was waiting for me. the last thing I remember before seeing the blue lights was cheering and saying to my mate I was surprised it went that fast.

I also picked up one for 36 in a 30 a few years ago.

Neither of the above I'm very proud of!

years ago i was caught on camera in a works van. my boss refused to tell the pollice who was driving at the time , so they took him to court. as the judge was just about to fine/points him, he produced the camera pic, held the judge in contempt of court for prosecuting him, when it was clearly not him in the photo.

amazingly he got away with it

I've never had one in the UK, although I've had a couple of close calls, mostly things like 35 in a 30 and just managed to tap the breaks in time before the guy with the handheld could get me, but the funniest escape had to be a group effort with GTROC about 9 years ago.

We had all met up off the M4 to convoy up to a Skyline meet at Gaydon Motor Museum and one of the members was a copper, he got a phone call indicating the local PD had been tipped off that a whole bunch of VERY fast cars would be driving up the M4 in convoy and they had placed a speed camera van on a bridge appropriately to catch us. The word spread fast before we set off thankfully, and so 26 GTRs cruised under the speed camera van at 65mph in 3rd gear, then once on the other side of the bridge, 26 GTRs simultaneously "hit the hammer" :D

Only speeding fine I've ever had was in NZ, I was in the Ford Falcon XR6, it was 11pm, road was clear, at the bottom of a hill sat an unmarked, completely inconspicuous white Bedford Rascal at the side of the road, I drove past it at 106kph and it was a 100kph limit because I was on a hill and the car was an auto/tiptronic it had just crept up there a little, went past the van and FLASH, a week later the ticket came through the post. Thankfully no points, and didn't even have a Kiwi Licence at the time to put points on if they'd wanted to, but a big $300NZD fine and some serious anger, since I'd got my first speeding fine ever, at exactly 65.87 mph, which means in the UK I wouldn't have even gotten a fine in a 60mph limit!!!!!!

I once got caught doing 42 in a 30 zone near Moffat. traffic cop pulled me over. I expected the 3 points and 60 quid fine that I would have got in England. NOPE, I was summoned to the Local County Sheriffs court, and given 6 points and 1 £500 fine. and that was in the late 90's. :(

just one in my old honda driving down from aviemore

was playing with a crx from perth to stirling he tore by me so i put the heavy shoe on tore by him then he started flashing franticly ..then flash flash

two weeks later got the letter through my door

long story short never got a court date and that was over a year ago ..so i got a break

If I ever get caught speeding it'll be a ban not a fine :blushing:

But, they'd have to catch me first..

If you are paying attention (which you should be when driving quickly) there is no excuse for getting caught. If you didn't see a cop car (you can easily spot the extra antennas on an 'unmarked' vehicle), then you also might have missed the truck which is about to pull out, forcing the car in his blindspot into your lane unexpectedly. Always anticipate the worst case scenario (apart from a grand piano falling from 15,000ft directly into your path) and drive acordingly and you'll find that there are really, very few opportunites to 'get the hammer down'. That's why I get up at silly o'clock to go for a drive, you never see many coppers then :sleep1:

You could just say to the police what my niece did when she got caught;

"I didn't think speed limits applied at night" daft cow

Still, she got off with it, don't think it would work for small boobed women or men though. lol

This

Working from home I have a pretty good choice in when I have to go anywhere, so always avoid busy times. 4am drives on Easter Sunday to visit my parents in Cornwall are always great fun (and bloody expensive in fuel)!

trust me i see more coppers in the early hours of the morning than i do though the day. They tend to be out looking for drink drivers.

somehow i have no points, even after a 20min conversation with a local traffic cop as to if the unmarked Daewoo Matiz (and that's no joke 2 of the largest police officers i've ever seen got out of it, i couldn't stop laughing) could have kept up if id decided not to stop. luckily they saw the funny side of it.

they are on a purge locally, just got my first one fater 7 years. loads of people are getting its a scheme called no excuses. :( i seen about 10 mobiles a week atm and the undercover cars like the one that got me are waiting in most laybys.
