zeds been running fine for almost a week now, but the other morning i went out and started her up and she has developed a rather noticeable misfire, like shes hunting on tick over, which is bloody annoying.

Just to let everyone know, its a new wiring loom on the zed. day before id taken her down to the garage to get some milk, got home and it was running fine, the next day it was hunting.

also gave it a few beans the other day while joining the dual carriageway as wanted to see what she could do, the auto box seemed to take ages to change gear (think it might of done it when it reached the rev limiter) i had a double pop like back fire, and then crap loads of smoke that then cleared, was a bit worrying to be honest as originally i thought id knackered a turbo as it seemed to smoke for a good 300 meters before it cleared up, but hasn't done it since.

then yesterday, my water bypass pipe that id said i thought i had an air leak in (drivers side tubby) decided to burst just after pulling up, so had to temp fix it and put about 2 liters back in the car to limp home, got back home and got a lift down to my local car maintenance shop to get some more water hose, changed it over, and its still sounding like i have a air leak in the turbo by pass piping, which is now making me wonder if this new hose is also going to eventually burst as well.

when filling it back up with water i seemed to have collected like a rusty clay type residue on my water filler cap on the rad.

so bloody annoying lumpy misfire

smoke after double pop when on boost.

water by pass gurgling once turned off, like trapped air in the pipe

Water temp still showing around the 83 degree mark and consults free edition is saying its around 84 to 85 degrees.

misfire started before the double pop.

Be nice for serious comments, but yeah was kinda wondering who was going to say the fuse first lol

Like this? If so, I flushed the cooling system out and refilled with a mixture of water & antifreeze - that did the trick

mate, my lumpy misfire type thing was down to wet MAF.. TPS and throttle body sensor. Oh and i had a large backfire type thing going on too. Is your air filter wet at all? were you driving in the rain?

I'm sure you have thought of or already checked these......

oh and don't forget to check the fuses! c'mon... I'm only jokin

Yep that's the stuff though not that bad lol

Need to change the water pump at some stage anyway as it's a bit rattaly and only a matter of time before it fails, but want to get me car idling nicely with out sounding like it's about to cut out every now and then

^^^^^ I had this with one of my old zeds which was fitted with a single APEXi induction kit, it got wet and the drive was really bad and was advised to go for JWT pop charger as it's more water repellant?

never actually got to fit the JWT kit though so wouldn't know if it would have made a difference in the wet, but I do know that once the APEXi filter had dried out the drive returned to normal

just to clear a few things

was running fine to start with, parked it up after just a nip to the garage and it was running fine when i turned the engine off, started the next day with a strange misfire and not sure what cylinder its on, might be a wet maf with all the rain we have had recently, but its only on idle im getting it, it drives fine and isnt loosing a cylinder.

On idle its pu pu mmmmmm pu mmmmmpu pu pummmmmmm

no codes on ODB scantech nissan, and the misfire doesnt effect normal driving, which i would of thought a wet maf would of.

You might have a vac/air leak causing the misfire, after seeing the water hoses on the turbos, are you sure the diameter is big enough? flush your water system anyway as it had no coolant in it when i saw it last. Water alone will rust out the block and cause all the crap you are getting in the water and no doubt the crud could be blocking or blocked you thermostat/matrix or smaller water journals through out the block.

i put coolant in before JAE matey, wasn't going to risk driving it that far with out it.

the water pipes are ever so slightly larger, i had no trouble getting the replacement water pipes on but there was slight resistance if that made sense lol

But yeah, will give it a flush

agree with the above vac air leak also you say the water pump is rattling

perhaps its not pumping enought water round check all connections the one mostly to check would be the ptu

PTU was my first port of call lol

series i or 2 ptu I changed mine early this year to a series 2 and noticed that the wires in the back were not very tight in the back casing tightened it up and no more problems

got a S1, but also have a S2 ready to go on when i get around to hard wiring it in.

was down at the car earlier and found i had a collapsed vacuum pipe for the drivers side dump valve going to the balance bar  so used a bit of fuel hose for now till i can get a replacement, basically ive got the simple vacuum set up pictured below ive checked all pipes and all but that dump valve was collapsed. looks like ill be wiring up the S2 ptu to see if thats the problem.

EDIT, when i pull one of the vacuum hoses off it verges on cutting out so still could be a vac leak i suppose. but it does seem more a misfire than a vacuum problem

Have you checked all you're capped/blocked bits on that diagram for leaks? Just a rubber nipple may not be enough, I tend to cable tie them on too as they can blow off under boost.
