Low fuel light

Do these cars have them?

I bottled it at a hairs breadth above the bottom of the last marker on the fuel gage and filled up. The fuel light wasn't on at that point, just wondering if they have one and what it looks like?

It's a 1991 UK manual TT 2+2 if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Yes mate they all have fuel low lights, though some may have bulbs gone lol. Its at the top of the fuel gauge, behind the petrol pump icon

The light normally comes on on or under the empty line, it does on mine, some may vary, but you have about a tenners worth in the tank when the light does come on, so be a bit braver and try it lol

unless you have after market EL dials, EL dials tend to cover the fuel light, but its not very pretty when it comes on and to be honest considering how far down the needle is when it does eventually light, i find it best to keep it extinguished lol

Mine comes on on bottom marker for about 20 seconds then goes out never let it run till it comes on again to see how far i get [ 1995 na 2+2 ]

A tenners worth? That's barely a mile in a TT :lol::lol:

Mine is always on. i fill it up with fuel after a decent drive it is always back on.

Its works as it should, just the heavy footed driver it the problem.:wheelchair:

Mine has only ever been on once, the needle was bending somewhere down the bottom it was so empty. That was the day I bought it and it came on whilst looking for a petrol station. Personally I never run it below 1/4, there's too much crap sat in your fuel tank and my personal opinion is you don't want that crap in your engine, so injector cleaner every few months, fuel treatment once a year and never let it below 1/4, that way you keep your engine sweet and don't block up your fuel filter unnecessarily.

Is there really that much crap in a zx tank? I've restored a whole bunch of classic motorcycles so I can't really speak from a four wheeled perspective, but I haven't ever really come across a tank that was full of anything (other than petrol :p). You get the occasional flakes of rust in a steel tank or oxidisation in an aluminium tank sure. But the rust flakes wouldn't pass through a fuel filtre. I'd doubt that most rust flakes I've seen would break up enough to get into a fuel line.

The only way things get into your tank is via a fuel pump at a petrol station or from the tank corroding from the inside, neither of which I can see as being that common of a problem. Admittedly for safe practices your methods make sense but it seems a little over kill to me.

Exactly mate!! That's what the filter is there for......

.....it's fine to run the tank down to almost empty. I have been doing it for years in most of my cars and not once had a problem with crud getting into the engine!

But do remember to replace the fuel filter once in a while......

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i have this problem so make sure its not to low just in case!

dan.

I've run mine dry after running around a few days with the light on. Silly me. Filled from a can and started and run fine with no issues. Off to the garage and put in about 70 litres to fill it. That was sore.
