BAD PETROL SMELL

When driving with the window open i sometimes get a smell of petrol. But it dosent seem to come from out side

I wondered if the petrol sender was under neath the back seats or boot carpet.I have spoken to SILVEA ENGINEERING they told me this was common just wondered if anyone else had this problem or knows how to solve it

cheers Spencer

It usually comes from the fuel pipes under the bonnet. Go around with a screwdriver and tighten up all the clips you can see. Then check it by starting the engine when cold and looking for leaks. They tend to be less obvious on a hot engine as the petrol evaporates very quickly.

Hi Andy i done that when i first got the car If you hold your head out the window you cant smell anything. Its as if the air is circulating in the cabin and bringing up the petrol fumes.Have checked the engine for leaks when cold and none are visable

Think you'll find the sender underneath that yellow motor cycle wheel left under your boot floor!

Have a good sniff!

I tend to get a smell of petrol on a hot day (not that we get many)and when I have one window open, when I spoke to someone how knows his way round a Zed he told me it was the pressure relase from the fuel tank.

there's also a fuelhose that's somewhat hidden under the plenum that connects the 2 fuelinjector-rails together.

have a good sniff around the area between the throttle-bodies when the fuelsmell comes back.

Stupid question but if you only seem to be able to smell petrol when the window is open then surely its not comin from inside the cabin, if it was you would smell it with the window shut too??!!??

Ive just had the same with my zed and i replaced all the fuel hoses on top of the engine connecting to the fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail and now the smell has totally gone.It was really bad before but now it's fine!!!

The factory hoses have been on the car from new, don't forget and therefore have probably started to perish in some form or another. It only takes 20 minutes or so and can easily be done by anyone with half a brain!!

It wasn't me who said I get a smell of petrol in the car,Ive had my Zed for 3 years and I had the petrol small pipes changed ages ago (as I am to small to reach them my self).

It is worth taking the plastic cover off the top of the engine and tightening every pipe you can get to.It worked on my car, and after a year I had to retighten them again!

The smell used to come through the interior vents on start up in the mornings.
