I went to santa pod for some more practice and getting my arse kicked (it's character building) Only managed 4 runs again but that was due to rain. Here's me doing a 12.4 and 128.6 terminal speed but the other guy runs a 11.3 :)

Well I'm not an expert at the 1/4 but I do understand the principles behind making a fast time. In the video I get beat by just over a second by a car which had less power than mine. Lot's reasons behind this, eg, it was built specifically for drag racing, it was stripped to the bone, it's power band set up to suit the 1/4 mile, suspension set up for the strip, and looking at his launch a much better driver too. I'm fairly happy with my times but would like to do better and get to high 11 secs if possible. Better people than me are suggesting my times are excellent for the car and driver so I'll take that :) The only way to appreciate how fast my car really is would be to experience it doing what it was built to do and that's go fast on the road or short track. I'm really keen on getting some racing in next year either hill climb or time attack but my main target is to do well at TOTB. So if there are any other budding racers out there who fancy joining me let me know. Or better still anyone who already races who could teach me a trick or two :)

again it was 13.0 dead, that is a huge difference than 14. My N/A ran 14.5 against it when it ran 13.0. Although my N/A led the first 1/8, the TT shot passed it like it was standing still. At 100mph+ 1 sec is a huge gap.

At 120mph you travel 165ft a second - so yes, I can see what you're on about now. A second doesn't sound like much, but 165ft (or thereabouts) is a 'huge gap' on the drag strip.

I'm getting there.... slowly!

Honda NSX-R - 18.2 seconds!

Kinda' makes you realise how we've been suckered into the whole F&F "10 second car" mentality

An interesting read this thread. And highly impressive times Bob. Nice one.

Picture the "Strip" .... its only 1320 feet long. So if you are 1 sec or 165 feet behind when the guy in front crosses the line... you have been "left for dead" in reality.:scooter:

I remember that feeling lol

i pulled a 12.4 at pod in my scoob, i reckon its good for a 12.2 but we will see. the scoob is 1200kg so a lot less than the zed, weight is a major factor.

What mods did you have on your scooby mate?

Bob, I dream of being able to do a 12.4 and 128.6 terminal speed. Best I have done is a 14.03 at 107 with a rubbish start (2.84 64'), but I'm competing in the Brighton Speed Trials this weekend so hope to improve on that. Will be trying soft rear end and 18PSI.

http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk/files/speedtrials/st2009results.pdf gives some indication of a range of cars on the same strip.

Tip for you

I run undersized stretched tyres on the front (less surface contact) eg a 225 on a 245 rim with 40psi. The back I use lightweight rims with only 12psi.

Less wheel spin any better start. Dont lower the backs too much as it will affect your terminal speed.

Also another important piece of the puzzle is to fit solid rear subframe bushes/collars, this will help stop the judder affect when accelerating hard.

The scoob has the usual mate, full decat 3" exhaust plus headers, front mount intercooler and a simtek ecu, still on a stock turbo. made 379bhp on the rollers but that is optimistic I would say more around 350 bud.

I t is getting garaged now like so I can concentrate on the zed:-)

Finally, I've just been able to watch the video as a proper internet connection has been restored at work!! I think I must be over-tired because, to me, it looks like a VW Jetta (3rd generation) opening a can of whupass?

Surely not?

no wonder the Dub scene rocks!

Think I might try fitting a 1.8i 16v engine in the zed on the basis of that performance! To hell with this twin turbo V6 nonesense!

Well if you think that's how it works why don't you get a Honda Civic engine fitted for a sub 10 second run

No real relevence to the video clip but bare with me here fellas.....

When going head to head down the 1/4 mile, lets say (driver A) gets a good start on green and is off the line well before the other driver (driver B) who has a howling start.

After wheel spinning for a second or two eventually he (driver B) gets traction and breaks the beam (his time now starts!), he covers the ground significantly faster than (driver A) did but obviously crosses the line second

in that instance (driver A) wins as it was a head to head, and he was first across the line....

however isn't it possible that (driver B) could have potentially been faster and covered the same 1/4 mile distance quicker than (driver A)

Therefore, potentially (driver B) could have set a new class record despite crossing the line after (driver A) had completed his run, all be it that he covered the distance in a quicker time.....

just something that I was wondering......

Iam sure at santapod, there do not take reaction time into the overall time, so you could sit on the line for a second or two then set off and get a better time than the other guy.

Mark

Yeah I thought as much

So effectively you could make a 10 second run but still 'lose' to a guy who's just made a 12 second pass

cheers bud, I thought I was going mad there for a second

Yep. reaction times are not included in the elapsed time. ET. on RWYB or Test n tune days as they are test events not licenced races.

However when a Race event is held under a race licence then first past the post is the winner. So both reaction time and ET are important.

Commonly known as head to head racing.
