just fitted a replacement autobox today, refilled with oil to correct level but i can select gear 1 or 2. its as if something is stopping the selector from going into gear. it moves from park to drive fine, was to dark to see underneath at this point. also when in drive it stalls when i apply the brake. any ideas?

Have you got a cable fouling the selector rod for the gear shift?

 

Did you connect up the switches correctly as when you go into drive it should advance the timing to compensate for the box. Sounds like it isn't doing this.

steams it feels like something is fouling the selector rod as im sure i moved it through the gears before fitting the box, also its not everytime i select drive its just most lol. it didnt do this before replacing the box

with the engine off, push the red clip {down or up, not sure which} to release the

auto gear selector from park and see if it will shift into 1 or 2 manually back and forth.

dont have a red switch mate as it uk spec car, only jap has them
