Well today thought id get under the car and have a look at getting the exhaust off, was nicely surprised to find that its got a full japspeed system on including divorced waist gate downpipes. so no elbows.

Well was looking over the car as i had done before, checking out the welding that i know about, when i came across this.

attachment.php?attachmentid=60666&stc=1&d=1310570233

at first glance it looks ok, but then i realised that it has smear marks in it where someone has fillered, give it a slight press and could hear the filler cracking slightly.

Give you an idea of where this is on the car, thats the front wheel on the right of the image, and you can see the vents of my wing.

Not sure i want to even bother trying to get that fixed to be honest as its going to be a lot of work and i cant weld to save my life. not sure how the hell the car past the last MOT now.

Totally disheartened now and not sure what to do, the gear box is shagged, the engine is shagged, and now the body work is shagged.

so really the car is shagged, looks good on top but falling apart.

complete waist of cash getting the new engine and gear box to be honest.

im now actually dreading what im going to find under the side skirts.

:crying: think i might just give up with 300zx's, i now know why on the last advisory it said "body work excessively corroded **dangerous**" would of thought that who ever got the MOT, would of at least got the problem sorted out properly.

will start with tack welds first and then do weld lines in stages to reduce panel warp.

'cor blimey ...he's even starting to talk like a welder.....

(old chinese proverd say...it was mine first....:chinese:)

just need to know what wattage mig welder would be best to use on the 300zx.

iff its thin stuff then 90-130 amp would be ideal mate:kiss:

take bantambunny's shell. swap all your nice bits over and give the car a good blow over :)

That's what I thought. Not many bare shell rebuilds get done. At least you'd know every single nook and cranny of your car. Just depends if you've got the time and space to keep to two cars that don't work..

With everything Vods has done in the last 12 months or so, I reckon it would be well within his capabilities!!

that would be a really good option if it wasnt for the fact the shell with no rot has bad front end damage.

It runs like a dream :D Just cut off half the front end and straightened the front chassis rail with a sledge hammer

Started on the key first time and no smoking from the turbos even without the exhaust so i think i've got a good little engine for the V8 shell.

A shame really because it's a lovely car and a really nice colour too :(
