Preparation for conversion

Working towards getting a manual conversion done next month so starting

to gather together all the bits needed !

first off my radiator was busted at the top end as the plastic hose connection

became brittle and broke off causing a bad leak so decided to get a new one

and while I'm at it also an uprated oil cooler to go with.

First bits bought turned up today :

As a few of you know I've a fair bit of bling in my engine bay so not wanting

to break from tradition I'll be needing a new chromed balance bar as the one

that's currently on is for the auto and is missing the connection bit at the left.

So who's up for a trade, not be needing it until the end of the month but if

there one out there that's nice and bling then I'm putting my name on it now!

After I get a new balance bar my current bling will be up for sale!

They both look crap mate...... Best send to me and I'll "dispose" of them for you. :tongue_smilie:

I would will definately be getting a lightened flywheel when its time to change my clutch. Had one fitted to my GTO and made a massive difference to the drivability!

Update !

Gearbox conversion is now complete !

One note is that I had to put in an extra no return valve inline going to the clutch booster

as when putting your foot on the break and clutch at the same time you could feel them fighting each other ie foot harder in break and the clutch pedal gets pushed up.

Never managed to fit the oil cooler as looking at the pipes it looks fairly complicated to get

into and my booked garage time was running out so we skipped that one for now, but if

anyone had changed to an uprated cooler and can show me how or give some pointers that

could help when I finally attempt it again.

Apart from a wee clutch bleed issue the conversion has went well so far !

Well I've only drove it five meters forward then back again !

But I agree there is a def buzz you get even from doing that.

One thing I've still to wire in properly is the neutral switch into the ecu, I've made a custom

loom that goes from the gearbox up to the ecu but I've not found any real guides that shows

exactly how to do it!

Simply plug the loom into the neutral switch on the box run the wires upto the ecu. Black goes to ground other wire is soldered to pin 44. Job done mate.

On the gear box I cut off the neutral switch plug as I don't have the other side as such,

Rather than run two cables up to the ecu i ground one of the two wires at the gearbox

side and ran one cable back to the ecu, so I guess that's the same effect as its still ground.

All I need is to find that pin in the ecu, any ideas what colour it is ?

Can't link to threads mate but have a look at the ECU pinout diagram in the FAQ section. Don't know what colour it is but it's defenitly pin 44 you want. And, yes what you've done will be fine.

Cool, this is the first conversion I've done and most of it myself so fairly pleased with my results.

It is a great feeling isn't it mate, well done :punk:

I had three separate guides all printed out just in case when doing it all.

One thing that confused me is in them all it says to bypass the starter relay or something

in the drivers wing, I skipped that bit and she starts without any issues.

I did cut off the inhibitor plug near the gearbox end and join them together if that's gives

the same solution, I found so many ways to wire up the electrics I just picked out the ones

I thought were best and easiest to do and it worked so I'm chuffed at that.

Yeah, the wiring is a bit confusing. I found the starter thingy in the drivers wing and soldered them together. Then removed the relay. Got there in the end :)
