I've got hold of a good engine from a manual ZX. Mine is an auto with the big end gone bad. So have been considering all different options I have to get mine back on the road asap.

 

Can a manual engine be fitted to an auto ZX?? I'm sure I read a while ago about a pin sorta thing that would needed for this to work. But can't find the thread about this being done.

Yep no problem but you will need to change the spigot bush for an auto one.

cant see a problem with that, take out the manual spigot bearing, and put in a auto one, then just add all the auto gearbox parts and off you go.

they are ever so slightly differnt, slightly different cam profiles to work with teh slightly smaller turbos. how much efect this will have on driving it i donmt know. ie ecu difficulties, could occur but as i say i dont know. as already said obviously you can just take the flywheel off and bolt on the torque converter. but i think if you where to have issues it would be related to the modified camshafts

I had a manual engine in my first auto zed and the only difference I noticed when I went to a full auto (engine and gearbox) was that the auto engine boosted quicker, for the reasons you stated, but it wasn't any slower etc.

i would of thought that with the amount of people doing auto to manual conversions, (IE: sticking a Manual box on a Auto engine) then there really shouldnt be an issue.

 

its basically the reverse of doing a Auto to manual conversion, its a manual to auto conversion, but changing the engine instead of the gear box.

 

I would of thought if there was a problem, it would of been highlighted by now with the auto to manual route.

How quickly do the tubs spool mate?

at the min they kick in at about 3250-3500rpm. but im having them upgraded in the next month or 2 so will be better:)

 

was just wondering if the spool quicker than a manual normally does?

You WILL need to put a bearing in or adapter as it's called and it looks like this only the one I suggest you put in should be in slightly better condition. Call mike feeney at mjp and order one.

thats the auto spigot bearing i was on about, i call it that as then people know what im on about lol

So, to confirm, what its called that I will need (as I'm a little lost due to loads of responses) is a SPIGOT BEARING for an auto that fits or will fit the manual engine??

the spigot bearing is a small copper type washer, not sure on the exact name of the auto equivalent, but its a mahoosive looking thing and a pain in the ass to get out, but you will need the auto version if your putting a auto box on matey.

isent the one he needs for the auto standard in the crank? then if it was going to be used for a amnual engine they simply put the spigot bush into the crank???

 

it is standard mate, in the auto engine :lol: The manual one will need changing.
