Fitting a Car.Mad spoiler skin?

Ok, I finally got around to painting my skin spoiler and I plan to attach it next weekend. I was planning to use Tiger Seal, or something like it, unless someone tells me otherwise?

The things is the skin has a lip underneath, it looks like it should wrap around the bottom lip of the tailgate, covering the original rear right and left bolt holes. There isn't any give in the fibre glass, so not sure how I'm meant to do this. I've considered cutting this lip off, but really if I can get it wrapped around the tailgate it would look better and cover the bolt holes from the inside too, probably addding strength also.

Has anyone fitted a skin, if so hows it done?

If it makes any difference I'm not filling and smoothing it into the tailgate, not yet anyway...

I used a dremmel cutter on mine to take out the bits of fibre glass that wont allow it to fit along the edge, i didnt take the whole lip off as it sits against the boot bottom edge to keep the panels flush when the boot is closed.

I can take some pics tommorrow if you like, although i have smoothed it all in, you can see where the bottom sits.

Pics would be great! I think I know what you mean, the side 'limps' on the lip.

The thing is it looks like it was specifically made that way to cover the bolt holes, which is why I felt I shouldn't cut them off.

Cheers!

Well here are some pics fitted at the smoothing stage then primer. I will take some close up pics of the boot edge etc tommorrow

It look real nice! Looks nice even pre-paint!

Yep I really need to smooth mine in, but later when I have some money.

Did you just use Tiger Seal, nothing else holding it on?

Well its matt beige at the minute lol, so not quite so stealth. If i do that i will never get it finished lol. Ive done some more bodywork recently and moved the reverse camera out of the key hole and filled it for a smoother look at the rear. Will hopefully get it painted in June.

The lip sits along the edge of the boot and dosent wrap around anything. then you use screws through the holes to help attach the spoiler.

Then you use tiger seal. fiberglass paste and flexible filler to smooth it in. I really wouldnt fit it without smoothing it in :wack:

I'm going to have to look at it. I would have thought it would stick out too far if it does wrap under the tailgate lip.

I would love to smooth it in, but I need to keep things cheap at the moment. I will in the future when things improve....fingers crossed...
