Ha… I could not believe my ears this morning when I heard a report on the BBC news that:

“The increase in oil (petrol & diesel) prices was a good thing for some people.”

What a stupid thing to say!!!…. Of course the increase is good for some people, a very few, very rich people and the oil industry!

To everyone else all their living costs will increase higher that any pay rise they will get, not to mention the added weight of the duty (stealth tax) on these fuels.

The same stupid comment could be used on “any” price increases or even unjust actions…. “Someone always benefits”.

How that could be considered a news worthy item or even a wise thing to say on a supposedly unbiased program is beyond me.

If this is an example of the type of reporting that the BBC will now produce then I feel that I will have to start watching Sky news and campaigning for a reduction in the TV licensing fee (by the way another stealth tax) as I hardly feel that the public should be paying for a service that does the opposite to looking after their interests.

 over....

Totally agree budy, if you have worked hard you get nothing, whilst others seem to get everything handed to them on a plate!!!

There are many things wrong with the running of government...and has been for years.

Child Benefit is a prime example. The latest steps are stupid, ill judged and unfair, however what happened before for decades was scandalous. Why for example, were millionaires and billionaires paid £20 per week for their first child? Would they have noticed this sum of money coming in to their account each week? Of course not! Would they have minded if it was taken away? No.

Child Benefit should definitely be means tested, but start off at say being paid to anyone earning £150k and under, then gradually year by year reduce it to say £100k. After that, review it again against the cost of living etc.

Similarly, why are people on income support or benefits paid to live in 4-5 bedroom houses when the majority of people who WORK and pay TAXES never graduate from a 3 bed-semi throughout their whole lives? Sheer madness and again gross incompetence by councils/governments etc.

None of this is the fault of the recipients; it's the policy makers who are at fault. People will always take what they can get...that's just common sense.

vote for me when i run for goverment then lol :D

What irks me is that the government takes all this duty in fuel tax, knowing that running a car is a necessity for many people, on the back of some weak, ill conceived "eco policy" without putting this money into the transport infrastructure. I've said this before, go to Europe, the public transport is spotless, runs on time, is joined up so you can make connecting journeys and most importantly, its affordable.

Pfft!

running 1 van,1 pick-up and 2 cars i just cant see myself getting another zed in the near future:(...started getting a zed MoJo back last autum but the price of fuel now has just pissed on it.

Rubbish, sorry, but you see it on the news weekly, someone who has been claiming benefits when they are not entitled to that benefit!! Are you telling me that this is not the receipients fault? Think again!!

I take what I need, I am probably entitled to more, but I already feel like a scrounger, and I'm sure most genuine people claiming disability benefits would be the same.

I would love to go back to the job I loved, but it aint going to happen, so I have to make the best of my own situation. I still pay my own mortgage, I had to pay for the extention to my house that I needed to accommodate my wheelchair, I pay my own council tax, electricity and gas bills. I know of people who get help with these things, but they know how to work the system.

Then you get the people that are falsly claiming benefits that are filmed running up and down the touch line of a local football match with a flag in their hand, but are claiming disability benefits, oh, and this person was also the mayor of the authority he was claiming off.

Or people claiming out of work benefits but working at the same time. How do you think that affects people that are genuinly in need of these benefits? It makes everybody think that all people claiming are swinging the lead.

This doesn't end with disability benefits, it happens with every benefit, some of the people claiming the benefit are not entitled to it, but claim it anyway, but you say it's not their fauly?........:censored:

I agree with what you're saying but my point is that policies, rules and regulations should be correct in the first place and prevent such abuse.

It's no good leaving the front door ajar and then wondering where the TV, laptop and jewellery has disappeared to!

I agree with what you're saying but my point is that policies, rules and regulations should be correct in the first place and prevent such abuse.

Agreed, the whole system needs a re-vamp......

Nick (Takemetothepub) has a valid point about the cost of everything rising; and fuel is just in proportion with other comodities which have increased in price over the last few years. And in principle I have to agree......

.............The problem however is that for one reason or another, fuel is going to get more and more expensive. Even in times of stability, governments are starting to heap more and more tax on to the base price, in an attempt to appear more 'green' etc. This is ridiculous of course but it's become normal practice around the whole world and unlikely to ever reverse..................!

What irks me is that the government takes all this duty in fuel tax, knowing that running a car is a necessity for many people, on the back of some weak, ill conceived "eco policy" ................

Pfft!

.......However when the high price of fuel is heavily attributale to taxes and duties; rather than the actual base price of the item in question, then it is unjust.

Particularly as successive governments have jumped on the "green bandwagon" and used the false (in my opinion) justification of global warming (which has conveniently been renamed "climate change" FFS) to raise such duties.

But I don't necessarily blame the past or present government - after all, it is the Great British population that has essentially swallowed the green argument. Most of the UK has fallen for it hook line and sinker - up and down the country the masses nodded in agreement that cars kill polar bears so no-one complained at the time; and agreed that such tough measures were needed to save the planet.

I bet that many of us here believe(d) in global warming - yet we all happily still drive our 3 litre, often twin turbo'd, junior supercars!!

Richard:winkiss:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Bread at a quid a loaf i can take.

Even Polo mints at over 40p.

But calling a Zed a JUNIOR Supercar?????!!!!

I started driving at 17 and im now 34.

Fuel was just under 35p a litre then, Its quadrupled in 17 years.

Back then i was on £3.00 an hour (working in a petrol station) and although there was no minimum wage, if there was one i would of been just about on it.

Minimum wage now is what between £5 and £6 an hour???

So even taking inflation etc into account petrol is costing the average person twice as much in real terms than it did 17 years ago.

Best thing about working in a petrol station at that time was the fuel blockades in the late 90s, I earnt more in tips than i did in wages!!!
