Just been over Northampton, noticed as i was getting closer to my destination a BMW police car had taken a keen interest in my motor.

So just as i pull up out side the tyre shop, as i figured, lights came on, siren went off. anyway, pulled over, only for the copper to turn around and say "you got no insurance, my ANPR just gave me a right head ache"

Looking stunned my only reply was "strange, wasn't long ago i got the documents through, and its just been through its MOT and ive got fresh tax on it?"

So anyway, he went off to his car after getting the details of my insurer (lynbrook) and then came back saying...

"sorry but at present your not insured on that vehicle, did you check the details when you got them?" so i said "nope sorry had way too much going through my head with a recent split from the mrs"

Anyway turns out that i was insured, but the insurance company had mistyped the last letter of my number plate. in effect making it as though i didnt have cover. they rectify it there and then on the system, and let me on my way.

god damn it lol

Not lynbrooks fault, it was mine for failing to check the documents properly. but all is good now, tyre fixed with a Goodyear eagle f1 on the back, 5mm of tread all for a nice sum of £25 :D so im happy again now, i can drive the car

Could of been a lot worse, i was a bit shocked when they said i wasn't insured as i had my kids with me lol

But CAR IS BACK ON THE ROAD, and my god does it grip.

Had exactly the same a couple of years ago in a Mondeo, got pulled and argued that I was insured and they should call Auto Trader to confirm. At that point the copper got all shirty and smug spouting AutoTrader are a sales firm not insurers and that I was wasting their time with lies. So I pulled up the site on the phone and showed him, he was asked to go away by the woman copper there and she delt with me for the rest of it and found that the numbers were transposed, should have read something like Y635 GHT but actually read Y365 GHT.

Honestly, you would't mind being pulled over for something like this, but it is the police attitude that I object to, until things are explained and sorted, they should keep the bad attitude and thoughts to themselves. Fair game if it is then found that there is no insurance on the vehicle they have stopped, but even then, being a public servant, they should still keep their thoughts to themselves and mouths shut no matter what they are thinking.....:asshole:

You wouldnt say that with the one that delt with me! Christ she was like a bulldog chewing a wasp

But she was fair and did her job properly so shouldnt bad mouth her.

Get this often now when i bring the Zed over, those ANPR machines don't register our Manx registrations so the actual reg comes up as invalid, add to that my plates are Black and Silver too, it all takes some explaining to do lol

So, what i want to know is, just how do you explain the black and white plates, because i think they look awesome and wish we would go back to them.

I just tell them they are legal over here where I live and the car is registered and am a visitor over there, this usually works without too much fuss.

Then when asked do your MOT station allow them, "Sorry officer, we don't have MOT's in the IOM" Can't say much to that eh lol

So we are all going to say we live at Smithys' place then, and have black and white numberplates and no MOT's.....lol:punk:

I have to agree Ian.....

....In general the police to a good job; but some of the younger officers are a bit "gung ho" in their attitude - they need to remember the fundamental law in this country, that one is innocent until proven guilty!!

Richard:shifty:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks for the reminder, put my private plate 3 weeks ago but forgot to tell the insurance.

Massive cheers to you :thumbup1::thumbup1:

Glad it all worked out for you Ian. If you are taxed, insured and mot'd then it shouldn't be a problem. The thing is if 'computer says no!' the mentality is it must be right. And anyone in a position of ''''power"" doesn't like to admit they're wrong.

Agreed, they always seem to have a kind of sarcasm about them until they find out your legal then it's a sudden change to a "ho sorry about that sir" type one.

You are welcome bud

my mother and one of my best friends have ahd their insurance cancelled by no agreement by themselves. my mum phoned up after realised the direct debits werent going in. they said she had cancelled it! this happened twice! right ball ache! it also happened to my mate but he reaised because he was pulled over and charged for it ! lost his liecense!

I work in insurance for my sins, I'm an IT manager though, not particularly insurance oriented, but in my younger days worked for Direct Line and was fully insurance trained.

You were actually very lucky to get away with it, honest mistake as it is, the law around insurance is clear, your vehicle is insured by registration, if you'd had an accident, the insurer could have refused to pay out, making you un-insured by default, which is against the law.

As you say, not the companies fault as such (Although the people setting up the policies are held liable by their companies for these mistakes), it's your own for not checking the documents, and again, insurance law states it is the proposers responsibility to check their documentation is correct.

If the copper had been so inclined, he could have impounded your vehicle and sent you to court, where you would have likely lost your licence, even after the insurer changed the documents, he had proof that prior to that point, you were driving around un-insured.

I can't stress enough just how important it is to make sure your insurance documents are correct. Insurers will look for any loophole not to pay out and the police have a tendency at times, to look for those loopholes too if it means they are catching you un-insured and can arrest you.

I'm glad it didn't come to any of this for either of you.

police attitude in morecambe generaly stinks ....BUT they are dealing with Gypsies , Chavs , alcoholics and boy racers all the time ..i think i would be shirty given that job

worst ones are small fat ginger ones hiding behind the body armour and pepper spray .....little stalins they are ......straight from beelzebubs bottom
