How much to convert a N/A to a TT

Sorry for asking a question that has probably been asked countless times before, but if I wanted to convert my N/A in to a TT, how much am I looking at all in (parts and labour)?

Don't need the details, just an approximate figure + number of days required for the work.

Thanks.

a few grand id say labour would be around 1500 or something crazy and probably cost more than the parts. Its handy being a mechanic as im going to do the job myself

I wouldn't be able to afford to pay someone to do the conversion and source the engine for me, but I'm lucky as I have my old TT as a donor car, and I like getting stuck in so will do it myself :thumbup1:

There's also been much talk of adding superchargers etc., but I don't know if anyone anywhere has actually tried it.

You could always fit a turbo to the N/A, maybee a rear mounted one at the back

Or buying a TT!

If it were me, that's what I'd do.....

.....whilst others have successfully done the conversion, I'm no mechanic so paying someone else would be much more expensive than selling an n/a and buying a TT.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

cost me £500 for the engine and all ancillarys, and £300 to do the conversion, i love my car :)

what else would be needed other than teh block and ancilaries and the ecu? cant be that much more difficult that pulling the block is it?

My engine is super healthy so I would definitely want to re-use it. Is it easier to install another engine or modify the existing one?

Who did the conversion for you? Sounds quite low @ £300...

you must keep an eye open mate and pop along and meet some of the rest of us at a summer meet. theres a fair few of us in dorset and hampshire now

BTW, would the gearbox/clutch need to be replaced, i.e. would an NA box and clutch be strong enough?

N/a gearboxs are the same internals as a TT mate, its just the bellhousing that s different, but as strength ect they are identical  A good clutch is a must

only bit i had a problem with was i had no oil cooler, the na box didnt fit over the tt flywheel so you have to do a little bit of grinding in the lower section of the box and a little on the side, (not difficult atall) their is some difference in the fuel pump and fuel pump ecu but i retained the na fuel ecu and just upgraded to a TT pump, seems fine, everything else was easy, oh and the carbon canister had to go, and the egr (didnt have to go i just didnt want it there).... thats about it easy

id do it again, it took 4 days (46 hours of work over 4 days) a fully stocked garage over a bank holiday, ramp and an engine crane...... oh and we were drunk out of our minds on frogs too.

AND DONT THINK YOUR SAVING TIME BUY RETAINING YOUR NA CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL...... i did that..... died after 6 months and that was a spanking na exeedy clutch!!!

i now have an epic 6 puc carbon ceramic thing that cost more than the cars worth married up to a custom made lightened and balanced flywheel.....

OH annnnnd you need an electronic boost controller as the NA wiring loom has no wires for boost solenoids sadly (shame) lol!
