Disaster struck yesterday. Was driving along when a tyre blew out, thankfully managed to avoid taking anyone else out but ended up in the barriers.

Managed to start it and drive it over to the hard shoulder. But the front end has certainly seen better days....

I have neither the time or the enthusiasm to put it back on the road again. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the car, but after having it off the road for months after the autobox went, and now this, I just don't think I have it in me to go through it all again.

My thoughts at the moment are to sell the whole lot for parts or repair, along with the shed full of parts I have for it. At least that way someone can do well out of it :)

I just have to be thankful it wasn't any worse I guess, and check my tyres more regularly!

Ouch, is all i can say too that. i have a complete front end on my breaker, but not sure that would really do to repair that.

Really sorry to see this mate and after scrolling it sent a shiver down my spine, has the insurance said out yet? i think in all honesty although it pains me to say it but you would be better off breaking it for salvageable bits and using this to part fund another if you wanted too?

Glad you were not hurt, well physically anyhow, repairing any damage is possible but from experience I would say thats much more serious than it first looks, chassis rails, inner fliches, bulhead may even of moved along with the engine and even transmission tunnel may have changed shape, sad but a gonna in any terms

Bad luck chap.

Yeah I walked away without a scratch, its a shame the car didn't fare so well. As you all say breaking does seem to make the most sense, as painful as that may be :(

Thats all that matters mate!!! your life is way more important than any piece of metal, no matter how nicely its shaped ;)

but yes alas i do think breaking it would be the best option :(

Its a piece of metal at the end end of the day at least you are OK. But there is a hell of a lot of work there personally I would say it is a breaker or project car.

Sad too see that mate, has the rear wheel took a knock too?

Afraid it does look dead tho'

Yup the car went round a few times, that rim got torn apart, I dont think N300TT will be wanting them anymore after he sees some pics... :p

Funniest bit was the aerial got absolutely mangled, I don't even know how that is possible when they are so high up and out of the way :s

Gutted for ya mate, looked a really nice car. I too think its dead, have a look at the rear left and its bent in a bit, chassis could be in a right state.

It's not fun binning a Zed(I'm doing it now) but I think thats the only option.

That's one thing ive always been impressed about with the crash photos, its the ability of these car to protect the occupants.

Hi

Glad you're ok. The Zed looked after you to the very end then !

Just a point of interest, Was it a front or rear blowout ?

I agree with Chris,

That was a mighty fine looking ZX pre-accident and it's a shame to lose such an example.

It may well be repairable but for me, I'd not want it after a hard-ish front impact. With the prices of ZXs as they are, I'd say squeeze your insurance company for as much as possible and buy another. If you can purchase the salvage for pennies then do so; and take off your best bits for the new car and sell what's left.

I'm very pleased you are OK too mate - that could have been a lot worse!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

It was a front tyre. I wasn't going too fast, well within the 300s capabilities.... Not to sure of the exact speed on impact. I don't think it makes sense to go the insurance route, I'm quite young and I can see something like this increasing my premiums tenfold...

Looks like im going to have to break it :( Get in touch if you need parts, I have a whole garage full of parts + this car and ideally I'd like to sell the lot in one go for the right price.

damn dude. just saw this tread now. that was a pretty mint zed last time i saw it. tis a shame.

That really sucks man. I have to say it's reassuring that these cars do protect the driver and passengers so well. So much can go wrong on the roads and it's nice to know we all drive a car that passes the crash test reasonably well most of the time.

Glad you're ok, damn that Z is smashed up :(
