Ok guys,

Need you to poll with your brains not the heart. Problems with the car at the moment are as follows....

1. Flooded (water half way up doors)

2. Corroded rear brake lines (needs replacing, rear subframe out job)

3. Finish off leaking rocker cover job.

Thats the major jobs anyway, over and above that it will need a respray and a few niff naff jobs.

Need some help what to do really, Jimmer summed it up in the below thread. Your help is needed.

Cheers guys, Rob

The fact it's been flooded made me vote for scrapping. The work and money required to get it back to good will be far more than it's worth.

IMHO I'd remove your uprated parts and scrap/ break for parts what was left as you won't know the long term damage the water will have done, sorry.

I'm for repairing it.

The flooding just needs drying out.

Take the battery off to stop any wiring / alternator etc problems + get it into a garage that can be made as warm as you can.

Providing its not left soaking wet, there wont be any long term problems + Think scrapping its a waste...

i voted to scrap. But i dont mean scrap, i mean break. Scrapping is throwing money away!

Looks like scrapping is going to be the clear winner.

Unfortunatly I dont have a garage so that aint an option, same reasons and living in Germany I cant break it so its car heaven only.

Im sorry to put a "damper" on it but once cars are flooded its the beginning of the end.Flood damage is the worst kind of damage as you cant see what havoc its caused, but give it a few months down the line. The car could be fine but it also could turn into your worst nightmare.

Its not a damper mate, I dont want to scrap it but its winter now and its a bit of a gamble hoping it will dry out and be ok. I dont want to spend more money and time on it fitting the parts i have in the cellar and doing jobs that I want to do to it and it being a sh1tter because all the wiring is shot.

I reckon I'm going to need replacement ECU's and various other bits so I'm thinking of stripping it of performance parts and bits I would want to keep off it and buy another one.

I voted scrap as well mate - and that is with both head and heart.

Thing is, you know it's going to cost you a lot more than the car is worth to fix; and you'll not know for some time whether there is any underlying damage caused by water getting in where it shouldn't.

You already mentioned the rear brake lines needed doing before the flood damage - that's a good £600 (JeffTT did my red ZX) before you even start!

You can buy a decent ZX for £3k so my advice is to do just that - and take all the nice bits from your old one for the new one; then sell what's left to recover some cash.

Sorry to hear your bad news mate - but hopefully a nice new ZX should cheer you up.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
