I only ever use Vpower. I found with my RS turbo years ago, that it did more MPG with optimax, so was worth doing anyway...

I only use V power and i know if i use normal in my Import GTO it doesnt run right. Wouldnt skimp on fuel to be fair

Shell V-power, and if that's out ill use Normal shell, i wont put anything else in now. especially not Sainsburys crap

I tend to use Tesco's Momentum. Usually cheaper than v-power and there is a tesco's garage closer to me.

Tesco Momentum as I like my clubcard points

Well I know for a fact that my car runs like crap on any thing less than 97RON.....

can't say that I’ve noticed better economy or performance from the top brands...

this article from which is interesting but didn't do the test using a car that need higher octane.

http://www.which.co.uk/about-which/press/press-releases/product-press-releases/which-magazine/2008/09/not-so-super-fuel/

Used unleaded for a year before putting some Momentum in 3 months ago. The transformation in overall performance was completely unexpected and haven't gone back since (also it's only 5p more per litre so so big deal).

Tried V-Power but it didn't seem as good as Momentum.

Also I dont see how you can gain any MPG from high octain fuel?

Surely your car is set up to squirt x ammount of fuel into each cylinder, this does not change because of the type fule in there, only how hard you put your foot to the floor?

So on an engine sat at exactly 1000rpm for an intire tank with normal fuel

and

another engine sat at exactly 1000rpm for an entire tank on high octain

They will both squirt the exact same amount of fuel per fire, as that is how they are set up.

Both engines will be going on their preset configs that at 1000rpm they need to squirt 0.03ml (made up number) per cylinder firing, so both will run out at the same time and after traveling exactly the same distance.

Does this make sense or am I talking out my arse lol???

A higher octane fuel will (all other things being equal) give a more energetic burn in the cylinder for the same amount of fuel. (I would have said bigger bang except you don't want anything going bang in the cylinder, that's called detonation.) So you have more power on the downstroke which means more revs which means you go faster.

Or you can lift your foot by a gnat's to reduce the power-per-stroke which means your amount of fuel-per-burn has gone down by a gnat's.

In any case, with the Zed, how hard you put your foot to the floor does not affect the fuel squirt directly. It just tells the ECU you want to go faster which in turns looks at the fuel map, the sensors and [other stuff I don't understand] and then tells the injectors how long to open.

Shell V-power, and if that's out ill use Normal shell, i wont put anything else in now. especially not Sainsburys crap

but sainsburys get there fuel supplied from shell anyways

cant say iv noticed much difference when using high octane fuel and normal in terms of running (maybe because mine is a UK car)

Isnt momentum just rebranded bp ultimate? Thought tesco did a deal with them. And charge a fraction of the price.

I thought BP's was 98RON, Tesco call their's 99RON, wouldn't that be false advertising?

AFAIK the octain rating of fuel has nothing to do with the energy of the fuel its purely the resistance to detonation. The higher the RON the less likely you are to get detonation - often incresed RON fuels actually have less energy content per volume :)

were people using v-power back in 89 too :p am sure the normal stuff for a stock car is ok isn't it.

I have used Morrisons unleaded for a year now without a problem, convenient and I get my points :winkiss:

However, having read this thread and having a 5p off a litre Tesco voucher in my possesion, I am going to fill to the brim with this momentum gear, see what happens :cool3:

increased boost and thus higher compression would take advantage of a higher RON but 95 should be fine for standard engines.
