Hi my car is taxed and insured but mot ran out in may, so ive kept the car in my garage and only drove it on my drive. Last week the garage and my barn attached to it were set on fire by arsonists. barn gone garage gone car gone. What i need to know is my car insurance valid as ive a agreed valuation on it and ive put in a claim, thanks john

Yes they should still pay out on that, you might have a small reduction for the fact that it had no MOT but they are unlikely to give you too much trouble about it (if any).

Despite what the insured value was they will give you an amount for a replacement that will normally be lower than the actual replacement value. At ths point if the MOT is an issue they will use that to justiy the offer.

But the car was not on the road and was insured so there is an insurable interest on their part.

i would think as it was in storage with insurance on it, it should be covered but id check your policies small print as there might be a clause in there stating other wise.

little bit of a weight of my mind that thanks guys. Is got an agreed value on it of £3000 so its a lot of money. To fund a replacement. It is insured with lynbrook

Sorry to hear it John :( :(

Just out of interest do you have any pictures of it after the ordeal?

about 12 years back I had a bmw written off (someone hit me and I was also on a public road) and mot had lapsed, but they still paid. I even told them it had lapsed.

ive several how do i upload im not a subbed member

Use photobucket.com sign up, upload to your album save them, then it will show you all your pictures you uploaded with a set of codes under them, right click the code that has in front of it so its highlighted, then select copy, then paste it into the reply thread box on this forum, you can only do 10 pictures per forum post though here, so if you have more than 10 to show us you will need to make another post.

You'll have to upload them to photobucket.com or email them to me if you want and I'll post them,

Really upsetting to see pictures like this. Was the garage in Stoke as well mate? If so whereabouts?

Thats really crap. Ive got CCTV cameras everywhere, no real help but atleast might id the fluckers if they come by again and insurance isn't worth crap. Had a car written off last month cost me 12k got 2.7k back and all my premiums have gone up about 40% On 3 cars that I have. A few years and my 2.7k is gone in added premiums.

Bought a Micra to replace my Range Rover and my insurance is £200 more then the Range Rover due to the claim :(

Sorry to hear this has happened, i dont see why they wont pay out. When you buy the premium the car has mot at the time, it doesnt state it needs it the whole time it is insured, just when it is bought.

An another note, can i buy the fire damaged panels of you. Fire damaged look was next on my to do list. (serious request btw)

Absolutely gutted for you mate - and it's a real shame to see a ZX like that as well.

I hope you get things sorted with minimum fuss too. Incidentally, as the cars didn't actually catch fire; but were damaged in an associated building fire, wouldn't the insurance for the building cover it - assuming you have cover for the barn contents as well?

Just a thought.....

.....and possibly one which your motor insurers may pursue to recover some of their costs if they have to pay out!

Richard:sad:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

absolutely tragic mate . it breaks your heart that a 20 year old super car ends life like this.

i relly do hope the little scroats get caught .

good luck with the claim
