argh! simple sum is beating me!!! think its too early on a saturday lol

hey everyone! im getting beaten by primary school level mathematics :-( dont know whats wrong with my head this morning, cant seem to think straight, and im only mildly hungover due to various home-made flavoured vodka :-)

tis a simple miles per gallon im trying to work out,

i got approx 205 miles to a full tank, well, untill the fuel light came on fairly regular ( i believe its a 70 litre tank??) so how many miles to the gallon was i getting?

remember to show your working out lol

cheers guys

70 litres = 15.397841 Imperial gallons

so divide the number of miles by the number of gallons so in this case:

205/15.397841 = 13.31mpg ouch!

nice on my friend :-) i got to 13 ish mpg, but thought i was doing something wrong lol. not too good that is it lol

Best to brim your tank first, drive it till you're almost empty then brim it again. You'll then know how much fuel you're actually using.

mine usuall works out to be somewhere around there. i was hopping it would be nearly double that when i bought it.

wow, 13.3 mpg, thats impressive! what kinda driving was that, and how heavy was your right foot? and if you say a steady motorway cruise i might have to reconsider buying a zed...

holy sh1tter! i usually get 300 to a tank on my TT and mine is auto eco-unfriendly you must have replaced the righ pedal with an on off switch :D

HA lol, ive only had the zed a few weeks, so still a bit heavy on the hoof. i did take a few of my m8s out for a spin too lol. im gonna try for 15mpg this tank lol

You should be getting as stated 300 to a full tank or near to it.

205 is way too low, suggest this is not motorway miles or are you having too much fun :tt2:

I recently on the JAE trip and then further south got more or less exactly 300 from a full tank.

Coshing mine about down country roads in my manual TT, lots of flat out 2nd, 3rd etc used to kill 1/4 of a tank in about 20 minutes....Fast isn't cheap..Bloody exciting though

Motorway cruising ish it was ok, but i got 25mpg regularly on the run to work(i'm not a saintly driver) + low 20's, high teens running about locally.

i can get over 25mpg outta my auto tt just cruising down the dual carriage way. it going round town that a killer.i drive mine at teh weekends mostly ussualy end up putting 30 quid in every other weekend or so. i went to cornwall from dprset last summer there and back was 100 bucks but i wasnt shy on the loud pedal at all.

being a bit of a eco(NOT) i filled my tank up full to go upto the JAE then at about 60/70mph with cruise control on which was off boost by a long shot both there and back with a stock ECU and done 300miles to about half a tank, now changed to a 1bar boost chiped ecu with boost controller and with setting the boost controller, going out over the weekend for a spirtited drive i've done 450miles with out my fuel light coming on. Please bare in mind that i've only been on the road for about three weeks now and the car has been of the road for about four years and as only done 51k, so i was taken it a bit esay upto the JAE and back but now playing with alot more horse's it's more on boost than off so and having so much more fun..........!

Do you know Iain that as got me thinking, I had thought up to reading this thread that on my JAE trip I had done 400 miles to the full tank, but thought I must of been mistaken and adjusted this back to 'it must of been 300', 400 I thought was impossible but going off what you say I am going back to my 400 miles on the full tank.

Overall that weekend I did 1007 miles (went across to Belgium after JAE) and put in £170.00 worth of fuel

450 miles?!?!! you have a zx yeah? mines done 48k and i cruise at 75mph-80mph as thats a better mph to cruise at in these and i get to 300 and my gauge reads nye empty! is it a TT?

Ok I got a bit carried away, its a 1990 TT auto which as a N/A manual gearbox, It’s still got the TT diff (3.692) but with the N/A box has the N/A speed sensor. Is there a size difference on the gear to the speed sensor?

I have worked out that at 7000rpm in 5th is about 181.2mph in a TT, same rpm and gear but with a N/A diff it’s 163.8mph which works out (TTmph/1.10622711=N/Amph) which also means that you 0-60 times would drop as the number of engine rotation rise to the number wheel rotations but i have not got a N/A diff yet...!
