Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone knew if the way i have my number plate is illegal.

 

 

I wanted to fill the holes that were butchered into my bumper and respray it

Ive seen cars with it but i always thought they were just waiting to get pulled over.

I dont see the problem as its still on show and can still be easily read.

No, any plate in the window is illegal. A plate must be mounted to the front of the vehicle.

 

Also, Motorcycle plates are smaller than the plates jap cars are allowed and you will get fined.

 

I've just finished a battle with the police and they insisted that i pay the £60 fine. i sent them the guidance and asked for proof that the plate was illegal and they still said i had to pay the fine. I then requested a court date instead and they dropped the case saying they have "reviewed the evidence"

Oh i read that wrong. So i can have a jap plate and it has to be on the front of the car.

Ill need to print off the regulation to keep in the glovebox.

What was the supposed offence?

At least you fought your case, most people probably would have just paid the fine, me included.

Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display numberplates with smaller characters if the vehicle does not have European Community Vehicle Type Approval AND the vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size numberplates.

surely that last statement rules out any smaller than uk size plate as this is not applicable on a zed? out of curiosity pbryant, what was the case they just dropped for you?

Ive just shaved my 99 spec bumper and smoothed it, hence no number plate holes and its in my window, for now lol

It will go in the smiley face just in front of the grill. The trouble is, the full size number plate virtually covers the whole grill, not too important for me as mine is an N/A , but still not as nice as without one all together lol

Im warming to that motorized flip away thing now, have it work off the ignition so when its parked up its away :)

When i take nice photos of my cars i always take the plates off, changes the appearance no end.

Ive still got side mounts so i could cover the smiley part i suppose

yeh it might work... though it seems even the legal folk are getting fines! also, you may get away with it the first time, but if you keep getting pulled you could get in trouble. i was tempted by the motorized flip one but its so expensive and only caters for us size plates :(

Could be adapted, but at that price i wouldnt want to cut it up atall.

 

Think ill just deal with it, gonna put the plate on the bracket for now but lower down, drill 2 more holes in, as it is it covers the satin part aswell as the colour part, if i can get it to cover just on it might not annoy me as much

Get a 1 din flip up screen, with a duff screen and use the motors, job done lol
