Perspex strip fitment...

Featured Replies

I drilled my tailgate & filed the holes square - it fits & clips in perfectly! :)

Mine had the holes and the correct fittings but it has bowed after fitting it, I have decided to stick it on using windscreen bond.

i made fixings that slide in place of the original clips, i ground the head of some bolts to a square so they slotted into the perspex strip instead of the clips, fitted it then put nuts and washers on, i can remove it and fit again as many times as i want and it wont damage :)

why do the holes have to be square paul? the clips are square but they sit in the strip... only the studs pass through the bootlid?

The clips I got with the strip were square where they go into the tailgate. Also I had one hole in my tailgate (?!) already which was square!

If you check out my post above it explains which holes are which.

all my clips where square too, and i had a square hole :) didn't use them as said above tho...

I removed the clips where there were no holes, and bonded the strip in anyway.

It needs to be bonded becuase otherwise exhaust fumes will make there way up into the interior via the tailgate.

good point wowser, never thought of that, although it does seem to be ok, the rubbers that are part of it are all perfectly flush, so we will see!

yes the clips are square that slot into the perspex strip mounting points... and that existing holes are all square... however, the square part of the clip is still too big to pass through the existing square holes in the bootlid and its only the stud that goes through the hole. the only thing i can think of is that the square hole is there to allow for tolerances in the position of the holes.

i dont want to bond it on as its only installed temporarily until i get time to sort my spoiler and i can seal the holes from the inside so the fumes/water wont be an issue.

have you still got the clips? i need 4 ;)

Afraid not. You can still drive it without the clips....If I remember correctly its has 4 nuts/bolts holding it on....1 at each end , and 1 either side of the brake light area ?

I had one fitted like that for over a year in previous z before I got around to bonding it.

yeh, its secure but it doesn't sit perfectly flush all the way so would benefit from the extra clips
