prob sunded like a stupid question but i was guessing we only rent a certain amount of web space or are limited to server capacity, however they work where s the info stored?

i can confirm that they do delete posts to keep the numbers down

explain ???

Ok so basicly, the forum runs on a Database which is written in SQL, all the data gets put into fields on the database in basic terms. At the moment with all the posts i would guess the database would be at around 300mb, the forum posts are only around 2kb each, as all the backgrounds and what not are shared. Oh and databases can hold alot of info, most of the time if the specs of the server running as per the amount of info it can hold

I thought it was a good question mate, I would like to know too, I have often wandered

I have a current single mysql database with 148 GB of data so if this forum is at 300mb plenty easy.

Lots of tricks and tips you can use to run very very big databases fast. A PHP accelerator would be first and mod_gzip is very useful.

I'm a web developer

You should never make a statement like that or every one will want you to do sites for them.. specially family :pinch:

im a web developer too, but for boring management information, not jazzy sites! and i think i can confirm old post's don't get deleted cos i managed to find my first few the other week. :o
