I'm close to giving up on the blue b***ard parked on the driveway :(

boost pipe came loose from offside turbo 2 or 3 weeks ago - no space to work underneath so I thought I'll get either Jeff or the local mechanics to fix it when I have my sexy new exhaust installed...

...then I only order 1 gasket instead of 2 (no big deal) so the exhaust can't go on yet...

...then yesterday the battery starts playing up (as per my other thread) and sounds like there's either an extra load somewhere or the alternator's not doing a proper job...

...then on the way home today the Antilock Brake light comes on for the first time ever (other than startup, and the fluid level is ok)...

...then before I get home I decide to fill up with some petrol. pull onto the forecourt and hear a POP as if I'd driven over a drinks carton or something. think nothing else of it, but as Im waiting to pay I look over and see coolant pouring from underneath it. get her home in one piece and look under the bonnet to see that one of the jubilee clips has been sheared in half by the pulley bolt causing the silicon hose to ride up the pipe...

...while Im shaking my head at that I notice some rust starting to take hold near the offside suspension mount.

Do you ever feel your Z is choosing a new owner? :death:

Its their way of telling you, they need help, mine has removed more knuckle skin than any other car, sometimes things wont undo, or wont do up.

Patience my friend, just smile, and fix as you go. its the zeds way of testing you to see how far you will go, but at the end of the day, when she dosent mess around, wouldnt have any other. They are like marmite, you either love em or hate em.

I love em.........................No matter how much she trys to injure and fook me around.

ive been there myself one thing after another going and always when you really need it haha i wish i could have bought it brand new but wheres the fun in thatmy 300 just like life you never know whats around the corner!!!

My old managed a 300 mile round trip last night however i did bump into a S15 Silvia on the M6 and we exchanged a few blips of the throttle which she didnt like as i had a weird couple of points where i lost boost. So on the way home i decided to treat her to a nice steady journey.

ok £100 lighter (multimeter, oil and coolant) and 3 hours later and I'm half way through.

the horn (which had stopped working as well) was a dodgy connection up front (and a missing fuse  ) so that's fixed.

the battery is losing approx. 0.15-0.16A which sounds like it's a normal amount considering some of the electronics I have installed as well... mind you the negative connection to the battery was a fair bit loose and the inside of the 'hook' had a layer of black powdery stuff inside it, so a clean off with a paper towel and a good tighten up and let's see how it goes.

(the current dropped 0.01A when I removed the small green IGN/Skid Control fuse from the o/s fuse box (near the windscreen) - is this expected or any idea what's on this circuit?

water pipe - see below for the state of the jubilee clip after being mashed up by the pulley! i'm half-way through this job and I think I need to remove the rad cowel to be able to do up the new jubilee clip, although the screws look like they're squared off so I'll have a go with a socket set first.

with regards to the last picture and the rust near the o/s suspension, is this repairable?

I regularly hate mine as it breaks and costs me more money! However, I usually enjoy trying to fix it and love it when its back on the road. Stick with it you know its worth it in the end!!!!!!

I just wish there was more space in the engine bay...

and its definitely trying to tell me something when the exhausts scrape on the floor!

that rust does not look to bad you might get away with cleaning with a wire wheel and then using a rust treatment on it if the hole is deep would need welding as within 20 cm of suspension point

All the fookin time :lol::lol:

That rust looks terminal.Your choices are, scrap it, or sell it to me for £50 :cowboy: ... Although you could clean off the underseal + paint with a wire wheel on a grinder(mind where the bits go as they slowly disentegrate) and cut a nice square bit out, make a new bit + weld it on, bit of underseal, lovely

Anything else will just come back way worse another day.Shame im doing so many hours,as its a fairly easy job + shouldn't cost a fortune... Patches just rot again, as the underside is left with a lip+ the crud sits on it :death:

i wouldnt leave the rust in either just suggesting rust preventer to stop it going further i always cut out the rust and replace with new metal

well after fixing the coolant pipe clip and messing around a bit (e.g. deleting the fan shroud), I identified the source of my boost leak - the pipe into the nearside throttle body was a little loose at the bottom. took it for a spin this morning, and other than a jumping temp gauge (which I assumed was a loose connection up front on top of the rad pipe) all was well.

decided to use it to go to work (I had the morning off), I still have jumping needle (albeit it keeps below a sensible temperature reading), and only while I'm throttling for some bizarre reason, anyway, come to overtake a slowcoach on a 60mph, boosting like a good'un, then POP, black smoke, judder, stall, F**K!

mercifully I was right next to a BP garage so managed to get her in there - would start but would just cut out after more black smoke. also wouldn't let me have my key back

identified ANOTHER loose boost pipe ffs offside down alongside the engine. borrowed a screwdriver from the garage and managed to lever the hose back over the metal pipe and push down. she started and ran ok and I managed to get her to work through careful driving. still couldn't get key out so removed everything from the keyring so just the key left, and locked the key in the car (secure car park at work).

a quick call to Jeff and he guided me on how to get the key back out.

so other than a loose pipe and a jumping temp gauge (both stock and aftermarket) she's not too bad.

...but seriously, while i was at the BP with a dead Z and no way to get the key out, I was this close to calling it a day after over 7 years. most of the problems she's had are minor ones, but which means more messing about on a weekend and less time enjoying her. i'm still considering it at the moment, I'm just not enjoying her any more :( :( :(

ps. how the hell do those of you running 18psi and over manage to keep your pipes from popping off - do you use ten jubilee clips or something?

lol... the sore headed journey makes it more worthwhile when you come out of the other end! i hope!!

as for your boost pipes, give a danny a call and tell him you need some t bolt clamps. that should see you boosting away :balloon: btw, what tubbies are you boosting 18psi on? must be some serious power? :surrender:

t-bolt clamps - they look like the solution!

I run 17.5psi on stock tubs with 360 degree T/B, max I've hit before is 18psi according to my E-01 but I've not noticed any drop in performance, det, etc. I just wanted to know how, if you were running something stupid like 2 bar, the chuff would you keep your hoses on!!!!
