Got a block tester today and it seems my overheating issue is a head gasket problem. Tested it twice and both times it turned from blue to green showing that it is the problem.

Brand new engine from the US built by one of the best guys in the business, and this happens.

God I cant tell you how low and pissed off I am at the moment, after all the money time and effort that has gone in to this car.

I honestly feel like burning the bloody thing! :headvswal

Damn, so sorry to hear it :( Give the engine builder a call, however its not going to help you out with the extra hassle of getting it sorted.

Yeah it came with the heads fitted, Just dropped him a mail. The garage that got the car running told me from day one it was overheating. They thought it was the water pump or blockage... Kyle is in the US and the engine is in the car. Just assuming that Kyle says its down to him and will cover it under warranty I still have to take it out and ship it both ways again so I am back to square one as that will probably cost the same as doing it here. Then there is the possibility he says its my fault or the garage who did the initial set up for some reason. The Garage that did the set up will say it was a faulty engine from day one.

I cant really see any simple solution to this except whatever happens it will be me that has to probably pay to get it sorted out. Im really feeling so sick about this I just cant tell you.

Hi max. There is a few people on the site been through bad times myself included oviousally.

All I can say is u will feel like shit for a while so best to have a break and enjoy that monster porsche of yours, then when ready get back to the zed and get it going. Don't try a quick finish, there is always next years shows mate.

that seriously blows man, gary is right tho. theres not much you can do till you get a reply and you never know it might come up roses, he may compensate you fully or summin for teh sake of his reputation its worth it. take some time out till its done outta sight outta mind do a spoot of fishing :D

I'm in the stages of getting a better job and if i got it i was going to save and import an engine from z1, this has really put me off now so will more than likely have an engine built here, might even give it a shot myself, i used to build the engines for my rs turbos which made just as good results as paying somebody plus i had the satisfaction i had built it myself, hmmmm think that may be the way forward.

Its hardly like I cut any corners with this either, bought the best engine I could from a top builder, used all top quality bits. And where I needed help I paid for it :crying:.

Its not like it was a budget side street garage job!

Sounds like a real nightmare.. I wouldn't be as relaxed if it was me shelling out the dollars! Hope it comes out ok for you

Sorry to hear that Martin. If you need me to pull any strings in the US, I can try for you.

So sorry to hear that!

I've been through bad times with my zed as well... And it took 8 months and a solicitor to get my car back... No to mention the money I have paid... But after bad times will come good times and you always have to hope for better.

This thing does not have to happen but life if so unfair sometimes.

It will take time and most probably some more money but in the end you will sort it out. Try and find a local tuner so it will be easier for you to ask questions...

I wish you all the best!

Wow, that is really crappy luck. Hope you get it sorted.....not so much soon, but properly.

Surely Si could take the engine over to the states on his next trip instead of clothes to save you the postage :)

I feel for you Martin, after all the hard work and money thats gone into it.

Get Jimmer to sort it for you and send Kyle the Bill, unless they pay for the return and engine out it would be a cheaper option.

Chin up mate

glad you at least know what's going on now but still sucks.

I'll give you my theory, based purely on what I've seen posted here and Kyle's reputation as an engine builder on the US sites.

I reckon that the garage set your car up without the electric fan on and cooked the engine. Realised their mistake, configured fan to come on etc and finished 'mapping' it and handed it back saying the electric fan isn't good enough. I say 'mapping' as your fuel consumption hardly points to a well set up car.

Most companies are not familiar with the Zed and make assumptions. When my car was first set up on the dyno to get the AEM going, the elec fan was controlled manually and dyno operator and mapper assumed dyno fans would control temps so left fan off. Thankfully when the temps started to climb they switched the fan on! (I was on holiday at the time but ensured it was supervised by a good friend and Zed head :))

Pretty good theory mate and sounds very plausible imo especially as it was overheating from day one and doing less miles per gallon that a sherman tank.

I would expect given the costs involved here not only in the supply of the engine but more so the cost of shipping back and forth etc, Kyle is gonna want someone experienced to fully check and confirm it is the gasket and then open up here and supply detailed report and a lot of pics as proof of what the report is saying.

If it turns out your right, then this could be the evidence needed against the mapper. Only way to tell is open it up and see whats what.

Good luck mate and really do feel for you!

smithy

OH NO!:crying::headvswal:headvswal

Really hope this gets resolved without to much heartbreak!!! been loving the development on this car and would be a shame to do all that work for nothing. all the best fella

Kyle is sending me the new gaskets and gasket set FOC, and if its a faulty head I can return it for a replacement. So that goes a fair way towards getting it sorted out, so I am pleased with that as its about the best result I could have expected without sending the engine back I guess.

Whats more is that it shows good willing to help get the problem fixed!.

Glad to see that Kyle is helping you out matey.

Who are you getting to do the gasket replacement? Jimmer?

glad you at least know what's going on now but still sucks.

Yeah, I've never dealt with getting a motor from Kyle, but he isnt one of the best, he is the best. Something like a blocked passage isnt something he would overlook.

Another thing is that I have noticed that these motors require being tilted forward-end up while burping air from coolant system. If you had a bone dry motor, and the shop did not know this and just tried to run coolant thru the system with the motor level and without some method of forcing air out, then it is entirely possible that hot spots could have developed. I have caught it myself on my own car when I flushed the coolant and thought it was air free but watched the temps rise well above 200F just while idling. I read up on it on twinturbo.net and found out about the need to jack up the front end. When I did this, a lot of air bubbled out of the system. And my collant temps were steady 178F afterwards with no other changes.

Maybe this is common knowledge on cars in general, or maybe it is just one of the little nuances of the Z32, either way, if a shop didn't service the coolant system correctly and then goofed with the E. Fan to make matters worse, you'd definitely be looking at a head gasket blown.

Good luck, but I doubt your shop would own up to it, if they are even aware that they did cause the overheat. I'm sure Kyle will do a lot to help resolve and get to the bottom of this

Got all the new gaskets today from Kyle in the US, so thats a good start. Jimmer will be doing the repair and rebuild when he gets a chance as well whenever that might be. So at least it will be in good hands, fingers crossed its just the gasket and not a machine work or head problem.

Anyhows im sure Jimmer will be able to resolve the problem once and for all. Its a pisser but its life. Im not sure when it will be started but its tucked away now until he can do it and there is no rush now!.

I will let everyone know exactly what the issue is as soon as its in bits to avoid any speculation as to what happened.

Another thing is I am probably going to remove the AEM EMS its a pain in the ass to get anyone to work with it over here.
