Slick Pete will be starting on my new car in about two or three weeks. He's going to strip out most of the mechanicals in the slicktop and get the bodywork right up to scratch along with a few other jobs :)

The engine and electronics from the red car will be put into the slicktop by Dan when Pete has done his stuff.

There are going to be a fair few new parts so there will be lots of good stuff up for grabs at very reasonable prices. Pete will be sorting out what's to be had from the slicktop and there will be some stuff from the red one and of course the rolling shell will be looking for a new owner. Not much in the way of details just yet but will be posting a thread in the for sale when we know precisely what's going.

What is certain is that while I won't be stripping the slicktop to the bare bones I won't be keeping aircon and various servos etc to keep the weight right down.

I guess my main performance aim is to exceed 200 mph. I managed 196 mph on my ZX10R after spending a bloody fortune so this is my last chance as getting too bloody old for it lol.

I must have been asleep the day you posted these Bob!!!

Its looking good.

I will get all that nice Ser 2 alcantara ready for fitting later in the year.

I'm liking my exhaust :)

Bob that exhaust looks lush mate, I can't wait to see the final product, she will be lovely

thats looks a very nice, exhaust, really suits that rear, what make is it?

are you painting the whole bumper white or are you gonna leave the diffuser part black

Full custom job.

I voted for leaving the diffiser black/charcoal Like the car in the twinZ pics.

Final decision down to Bob of course.

It should be heading of to my mate Gary at GB vehicles near Grantham/Sleaford soon for paint.

Then I am having it back at mine to re do the interior with Series 2 alcantara trim from the red TT auto we just acquired for parts.

Ready by the end iof the year is the target:thumbup:

sounds like a plan pete, what do ya reckon to maybe getting the diffuser vinyl wrapped in carbon fibre, may look very motorsport

as ive already said, im very interested in this and it looks amazing

Well I personally am not a fan of vinyl wrapping. IMO its a temporary fix.

i either want the "real deal" ... carbon fibre moulded or paint.

Its important to have an overall plan for a project of this size and budget. Thats my function... project manager/advisor.

I have also done a fair bit of the "dogsbody " work on it.

We are only using known and trusted sources.

Lots of the parts have come from Z1.

Gary has been painting Zeds of all ages from 240Z to 350Z all his working life..

Dan at Advanced Motorsport and Engineering has a good reputation and works on a wide variety of exotic and powerful machinery. Bob is constantly in contact with him to check on progress/problems and costs.

So nothing and nobody escapes scrutiny.

this is essential to drive a project like this thru to completion... on time(ish) and on budget(or VERY close).

This forum , like many others is littered with tales of woe from projects that were badly planned and executed and often abandoned.

My mission is to ensure that this isnt another epic disaster.

im sure it wont be a fail pete, i cant wait to see it done

is the 200mph still the target figure? Would be great to see the slicktop break the ultimate barrier, we see so many other marques reaching that speed but never a zed

although its nice to see people getting stuck into their zeds themselves its "in my book" as equally good to use different people to do the jobs properly and get the car 100% spot on first time

keep up the great work pete, really looking forward to the end result

I'm not a mechanic so would never contemplate doing any serious work on the car. I have chosen experts who will provide the quality I'm looking for and am satisfied that I will end up with a car to be proud of. I'm not totally useless though lol. I'm building two new garages for the zeds. Already done floor, walls, and prepared the roof. Also prepared most of the paved area. Going to lay EPDM to the roof this weekend weather permitting and starting the permeable paving in the next couple of weeks.

Will be painting the car Pearl White solid and the rear will be painted same as the Twinz's car. Again, looking to keep to the basic 300zx lines just a bit of tweaking to make it look more modern.

The 200 mph is still a goal. However, to make that more difficult it isn't the primary goal for the car. My parameters have always been a compromise between track and road. I have asked Dan to give me a car that can drive to the Nurburgring, do a fast few laps, and drive back again. Maybe do a quick quarter mile on the way :) That was the goal with the red car and we achieved that. Once the car is finished we will trial it performance wise and see what the next step is to achieve the 200. Probably going to mean a 6 speed gearbox. And probably from the 350. Dan has built a few quick 350's one of them in Banzai magazine recently. The gearbox is handling over 600 horses without modification and that's good enough for me. Then all I gotta worry about is whether Pete and Gary stuck all the bits on strong enough lol.

I'm hoping that Pete will finish the car by Christmas but it's not essential.

Looks like your team are making good progress Bob,

Is the engine in then? or was the exhaust pic for mock-up purposes?

Hope all goes well and you achieve your goals, although its hardly going to be a failure if you don't hit the double ton. As Alan said, would be good to see a Zed with that capability - but only if it doesn't comprimise the overall package. Even if the car can hit 200, you would probably only get a couple of opportunities to do that speed and you'd need balls the size of watermelons too!

Best of luck!

Engine is in and exhaust is fitted. The car should be running end of this week and will spend a couple of weeks fettling and going on the RR to set up though this should be fairly straight forward. I am keeping the 200 mark as a goal. I got close with my ZX10R in 2005. Best part about going that quick on a bike is that it goes quiet somewhere around the 190 mark. Worse part is thinking about how much bigger the tyres have become through centrifugal force and how tight the chain must be lol.

Can't wait to see the end result Bob. This is a fantastic project/goal. Keep up the good work and keep us all posted.

when your done, we should have a dorset and hampshire joint meet. it just doesnt ever happen :(

Looks absolutely spot on Bob, can't wait to see it back together and on the road again! :)

Just be patient!!

It,s coming back my way after paint!!!

But I think we might have to remove that blue silicone:blushing:

bit of a colour clash going on in there. (Dont tell Bob tho)

Won't be back on the road properly this year as I think respray will take up to xmas and then Pete has got a few bits to do so maybe a new year present lol. I'm in no particular hurry tbh.

First run on the dyno - sounds good I think :) back on the dyno tomorrow to complete the fettling

Managed 583 at the hubs on 16 psi.

I'm pretty pleased with that. Only minor problem is that it blew a gasket on the manifolds lol. Soon sort that I hope. Am taking it to Gary for respray tomorrow.

I gotta say I think it's going to be a bloody handful as it's so light but I'm really looking forward to taking it out big time :)

recon it will achieve its 200mph target?

It's looking unlikely with current gearing. Was looking at 6 speed gearbox but I don't have the clearance to fit anything bigger. We will calculate theoretical top speed with what we've got but it might mean doing something to the existing gearing to make it. Still on the agenda and while it's being re-sprayed and at Pete's me and Dan will be discussing the final steps.
