Hi, im not trying to get info on breaking into a zed i assure you, but im a bit paranoid that its going to get broken into or nicked for a joy ride or something.

Are they secure atall?

Do they have an immobiliser?

What is the nissan anti theft system?

On previous cars ive had a detachable steering wheel, but this has got the functions on it i dont want to lose.

why not put your mind at rest and get a decent clifford fitted or something?

Money is so tight at the moment, i still have to pay off the car, i intend to get something fitted, just for the meantime. Is it worth getting a steering wheel cover or something?

Very poor anti-theft - due to the lock barrels and Pillarless windows - Which makes an Alarm and Immobiliser very important.

As above and JDM cars came with no alarm from the factory either as car crime is almost ZERO in Japan. The locks are crap and flimsy.

If you can't afford an alarm or immobiliser for your Z, heaven help you when you need to replace anything that breaks (which is inevitable). :(

i had my old black Zed stolen back in January, so my advise would be never go to Bolton..., and if someone wants it bad enough they will get it no matter what you do.,

my z had a cat 1 alarm immobiliser, id remover the starter fuse from under the bonnet and removed a wheel from the car,

and they still got it, forgetting how good any locks alarms are , they lifted it on to a tow truck during the day, never saw it again... it was there at 6am gone by 9pm... *******s...

[/size]

but my advise would be when you get an alarm get the best you can afford, and get tilt sensors lol.

Im only skint at the moment as ive shelled out alot for the car. Ill be level again in a month or 2. Ill be looking for an alarm system then. Until then i heard about a magnetic switch. I thought i could tap into the ignition wire and use one of those, Hiding the magnet somewhere on the car.

Thats bad phoenix. My when my dad was looking at subarus he couldnt get insured unless he got a tracker for that exact reason.

get a £20 crooklok for the steering wheel or something for now, just as a deterent.

Whilst the standard anti-theft systems are rubbish, one has to weigh up the liklihood of the car being stolen. It's less likely someone will steal the car for a joyride or to clone; it's too rare/noticable! More likely a thief will pinch it to break for parts as the Z32 is expensive to maintain.....

......Or it'll just get broken into for the stereo if you have an aftermarket system fitted....

A reasonable Toad or Clifford Cat 1 will set you back around £300; and TBH it's not worth spending any more than that (providing it's a Cat 1). As said above, if someone really wants to steal it they will; whether you have a £300 or £1000 security system.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Fit a DISKLOK on the steering wheel and when you get enough cash get a SIGMA S30 cat 1 alarm which has a keyguard system so still cant be started even if someone nicks your keys

£70 for disklok

£250 for alarm supply and fit

Best thing you can do is to fit a hidden switch that cuts power to the fuel pump. This will probably cost you the grand sum of about £5. Get yourself a switch from RS or something. Little toggle switch. Hide it somewhere such as under the dash. Run a few wires to the fuel pump and solder.

Prospective thief won't know and won't waste his time looking for it. If he can't steal the car within about 15 seconds, he'll walk away.

Take the car to a good/trusted/mate/installer with electrical knowledge. Put in several immobilisers which are non standard fitted with a jumble of wires. Thus, remove/bypass the alarm somewhere and you'll still need to find the other kill switches located throughout the car. Hopefully... short of rewiring the car/new loom if its stolen it'll never work for anyone else.

The other thing, is for about £90 quid plus a £5/month for a sim with unlimited data (from three for instance) you can get a gps tracker hidden somewhere in the car running independent of any alarms and with battery backup which stores the logs until it can get network coverage again. I haven't got this, but a friend's car has and its pretty sweet setup, well hidden somewhere in one of the body spaces. Even if the battery is disconnected it'll still work (well at least for about two days and chances it'll be chopped in 24 hours anyways). This is a great setup for him, as there are no other ongoing costs, though dunno how the Police would treat the GPS logs - as they aren't from a 'tracking' company. On a side note, he also keeps a log of his journeys.

Some good ideas. I like the idea of more than one switch hidden somewhere. I would imagine that would be very frustrating for a thief :D

In the Renault 5 it was common to take the fuel pump relay out to stop people starting it. But that was easy to get to on them.

you can get a toad ai606 for around 300 pound fitted mate. Take the battery out, thats free lol
