There i was last night , cruising up the A1, i admit it, probably doing 80, when some small red car pulls out infront, so i take immediate evasive action and ...

a) Brake

b) crash into him

c) accelerate up to 100, pass him with a smug smile.

yep..c). Only then do i look up, FLASH, Sh1t, look at speedo, even bigger sh1t..

Its not me, i've been driving over 30 years, yes!! 30years, NO speeding tickets, i swear its the car, that bleeding turbo gauge just keeps looking at me, egging me on, daring me, its like a scene out of some Edgar Alan Poe book. (apologise to our younger viewers)

So its either my license is going to go, or the Zed... is there a ZA out there, "My name is Richard, and i own a ZED.."

I dont know what to do..i love the car, yet strangely hate it... what am i to do..i'm a wreck.

Help me

Please...

Were you still on the wrong side of the road when it went off? And was it a forward facing camera?

What type of road where you on? How far over 100 where you going?

come on Si, says A1 in post lol, A1m and A1 depending on what bit, but if it was that type of cam i'd say single lane :(

This is why I asked!!!! It could have been a dual carriageway, or going onto a dual carriage way, or had a central overtaking lane. I don't actually know the A1, which is why I asked.

Hi,

it was the A1 going north, cant remember how many lanes but the speedo looked like it was coming down off 100, mind you the road was a downhill stretch so easy to let the speed drift up.

Only myself to blame, looks like i'll have to take one for the team...

It's not an automatic licence looser and because this is your first offence, if you do get a ban, it's only likely to be from between 20 and 50 days. But the court will take into account your driving history, weather and traffic conditions at the time of the offence and the location. TBH, sometimes it's better to get a short ban and avoid points....as if you get busted for totting up, then you're looking at a 6 month ban. All that could take would be for 2 minor offences over the next 3 years.

Do you have any mitigation? IE require your car for work? Have any dependants?

On a 60 limit, I think if you get clocked at going over 85 miles an hour, then it'll automatically go to court. If doing 70, then it's 97 I think.

Yes, that could be enough to avoid a ban. Your mitigation is the fact that you require your car as you are disabled. The court could argue that you should have known this when committing the offence, but they might show leniency on the basis that you have an unblemished driving record.

IMO, it would go one of two ways. You'll get a slap on the wrist, 6 points and a hefty fine, or you'll get a short term ban. Don't plead with the magistrate for either, just plead for your licence and present your mitigation in a remorseful way. They will then decide what is proportional the offence under your circumstance.

You might get lucky and may not even hear anything. But the Truvelo cameras are digital, so the likelihood is, you've probably been caught.

sell your seat to a smackhead with a licence who has no car and no future:wink:...going rate around here is a ton(££) for a scape goat and well worth the money imho

fook that, you can get a wrap of smack for £25 and find a needle on nearly every street corner of hendon in sunderland, quick wash and the filthy tramp will think its clean and whack it striaght into his vein, id even lend him my lace to tie his arm lol

Bad luck mate. extremely unfortunate turn of events.

With it being a first offence they may offer you as days course in a driver training centre instead of fine and points.

Hi, A similar thing happened to me many years ago. I got caught doing 109 in a 60. I contacted our company lawyers when I got summoned and they advised me to "admit that I knew I was speeding but that I didn't realise by how much" (which was genuine).

It sounds like this would apply to you too. I got a 2 week ban and a hefty fine, so I took 2 weeks off work and decorated the bathroom!

Best of luck.

Thanks for all the advice guys, appreciate it..

I have 17" 'wheels instead of the std 16", if the speedo or gearing or whatever has not been adjusted, would i be doing faster or slower than the speed dial shows..?

It depends on the tyre width etc mate.

Bearing in mind that even the standard car is probably well out! at a genuine 100 most tend to be around the 93 mark or so... Car depending My M3 was almost spot on 99 gps@ 100 on speedo. my First zed was more like 93 gps @ 100 on speedo. Although I must admit this zed is the other way around, 110 gps @ 100 on speedo lol So got to be careful with that one...

Most cars tend to overread a bit though for safety, so if your pushing it, your not pushing it as much as you think you are.

Cheers Quavey for clearing that up...:confused1:

Tell you what, i''l wait till i get the summons...

Rich

Thanks All

Just wait until the very last minute to send the summons back, also request the photo because you were 'unsure who was driving' etc etc. I done that twice - once when I was 17 and more recently when I was 23. Didn't hear anything back on both counts and still have a clean license. Gotta shaft you within 3 months of the offence I think. First one I was caught overtaking a van in my XR2i @ 99mph!

Those tricks do NOT work anymore and if he wants as good an outcome as possible, return ALL documents as SOON as you recieve them. That is imperative! If you get shown up in court as handing your documents/NIPs back late, they'll throw the book at you!

You might be lucky... your speedo could well be quite in accurate at speed!

If he was in a 60 zone, then he'll still be at the point of having a court summons if he thought he was doing around 100. Imagine that would be around 90mph true and anything over 85 in a 60 zone automatically gets a court hearing.
