Bit of an odd question this, but does anyone know the legality of driving (short distance) without the front bumper on my zed?? Obviously I'd display the number plate in the front windscreen, etc...

The reason I ask is that I need to remove my front bumper so I can get it re-fibreglassed but having an absolute ball ache of a time getting it off! Long story short I can't be arsed with doing it myself anymore so figured I'd get it down to a local garage/bodyshop and get them to take it off for me. The issue then is to how I get the Zed back home...can I drive it or will it have to be a trailer/recovery job??

Big No no mate, Police (if caught) will make you leave the car where they have pulled you over and then they'll have it removed by a tow/recovery truck and you will recieve a hefty bill + all the extra's they will include.£££££££££.

The car won't be road worthy thus MOT is void along with insurance.

Best and cheapest bet, get a tow home mate.

its is illegal to drive without the front bumper. a few years ago when my bumper came off my old Alpina 3 series i was pulled up on it.

I got let of as i didnt know but they mentioned had it been traffic officers i would have certainly had my car taken for being unfit for road use. For safety reasons in regards to pedestrians there needs to be a bumper that complies to a certain size hight etc.

yep the bumper is supposed to deflect and protect people so without it would cause alot of harm if you hit someone.

Make sure you have a rear bumper then :1eye:

was about to ask about the rear bumper but I guess that'll be covered by the same rules - Hmmmm, guess I'll be removing and re-fitting it outside the welders place:(

oh dear, that must mean a lot of the Veilside bumpers are illegal - it must be like getting hit by a cheese grater:wack:
