how many have had their cars weighed properly (corner weight scales)? I'd be interested to see what they weighed in at.

Had a full alignment done today and had the car corner weighted at the same time...

1467Kg with a full tank (minus 8 litres), welded in 10point FIA spec chromoly cage, minimal interior (seats, harnesses, dash, centre console back to arm rest).

ill have mine done at work when its on the road.

seems quite heavy from what i thought a swb was.

do you have aircon, hicas etc

A little heavier than I would of expected, but then the majority of weighings we've seen have been using public weigh bridges, and wildy innaccurate.

Fuel density is 0.73 Kg/L , so you had around 36kg (50 Litres) of fuel on board.

What were you individual corner weight figures ? Interested to see how the weight was distributed.

Final weights were

Front

Left 417 / Right 437

Rear

Left 329 / Right 359

These weights include my 'ballast' of 76Kg, quite funny when they rung me up to ask how fat I was :) Weighed a bit more than I hoped, but as you say, not much info around from accurate scales.

mine was the 1600kg one - as said in the thread it had 1/2 tank petrol, spare wheel, tools, etc. everything but driver! hardly any weight-saving done. since then the spare wheel's come out and I tried but failed to get hold of a manual driver seat to replace the electric one. i didn't record the weight at each corner, but the equipment was as accurate as i could tell - four individual pads that were placed under my wheels while the car was up in the air.

this is something i deffinatly have to get done.

were the weights out alot to start with James?

Initial Weights

Front

Left 432 / Right 422

Rear

Left 315 / Right 374

Drove to Birmingham today for work so took the Zed for a blast, unfortunately broke a traction control arm while there so had to drive back very gently and will have to get the alignment done again once fitted! Sodding potholes :taz:

Dragging this up again as I'm at Abbey Motorsport and just had corner weights done again.

New weight is 1371.5Kg so nearly 100Kg lost since last time :)

  • 1 year later...

Total weight of car without driver is 1372.5kg

Corner weights with driver are:

Front L = 417 R = 400

Rear L = 289 R = 365

This is with low fuel (light on).

My word, that's some serious weight loss on a LWB TT, what did you do, cut out the chassis rails?

Have you detailed your weight loss program in a thread anywhere?

I like what you have done, it shows commitment to weight loss but aren't your front tyres on the wrong way round?

Do you think I've gone too far?

Not really you could have gone for much lighter wheels than that!

Yes, all glass still. Need to find somewhere to get LWB plastic windows...

You only need the door glass fabricating...Ask plastics 4 U who already have the SWB pattern and design. You will probably need to send a sample glass to them. The rear and rear quarters you can just use flat polycarb cut to shape from a local supplier.

I take it they need to bend the plastic to match the window... What thickness is recommended for the rear / side windows? I would be thinking 2/3mm.

3mm is what we have used.

their side windows are a work of art. Check out one of my build threads for Bobs car for pics etc

there is really only one weight that matters Joel.....the weight of the item remaining.

Most of us who have done this semi seriously have just followed this path......

. Just used the philosophy of if it doesn't make the car go fast or save your life then get rid.

spending lots of time weighing things as you go makes for semi interesting forum chatter but not much more.

If you look back at my threads on Bobs car or mine you will find some data tho.... I think??. Done on a coal

The only other criteria to apply to weight loss is whether you need the car to be MOTable and/or useable on the road

Mine currently weighs 1270kg with 1/3 tank of fuel (no driver) public weighbridge but it is in line with previous weights on my old slicktop.
