Im sure someone has had this before or is getting it. Its almost like condensation, but only happens when the blower is on and appears quite greasy.

Probably something to do with the heater matrix, but need to be sure, before ripping it out. Im also getting a burning water smell in the cab when the heater is on.

I did a coolant flush about 2 months ago, but i will do it again tomorrow, just to see if it makes a difference.

Can anyone shed any light..............Jeff

Cheers

Thanks for confirming the worst, looks like i will have to get one. I have also noticed the greasy stuff on the footrest. I was hoping it would hold out a few more months till i changed my engine etc. oh well, looks like it will be brought forward.

Cheers

Do a bypass for the time being if you think you can live without it for a few months.

Cheers guys, i had a bit of steam coming into the cabin when i took it out and hour ago, so deffo the matrix.

How do i bypass it, take out the matrix and link the pipes?

Cheers

Graham

No, leave the matrix in situ. If you look at the back of the engine there are 2 hoses that go to the bulkhead, one is the inlet to the heater matrix and one is the return hose.

What you need to do is close the loop, so remove both hoses and bridge them (engine side).

No under the bonnet, at the back of the engine the two heater matrix pipes from the engine to the bulkhead, link the engine side ones with a single piece of heater hose.

Thank you, ive found a write up now, so will do the bypass tomorrow, as long as its not raining.

I found the write up before i saw your answers lol. I needed the write up to get the matrix out, without taking the dash out

You don't need to take out the matrix to do the bypass. Or where you searching for a write up for the whole job of replacing?

  • Author

Yes looking to do the whole job, but will just do the bypass for now, sick of the smell and the grimy windscreen.

Yeah, I had a matrix fail on me in a Senator I had years ago. The stench is horrible.

  • 3 months later...

Hey is there any chance you could post this write-up, as i too will need to change this, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hollings.

Ouch, that's not a pleasant jo to do.

(Unless you know the shortcut!!)

If the carpets are wet you might also want to remove them and let them dry out. I bypassed a rad on another car I had and found that the misting/condensation problem didn't go away until the carpets/floor pan were bone dry. Just a thought.
