poweer steering gurus - still broken power steering pump :(

ok ive sorta havent bothered with the Z since ive got the Supra, but i had it out the garage today & realized its still one bad car! :)

the car doesnt have the HICAS anymore.

when i put the TT pump on initially, it worked fine, but then i had a leak, and ruined the pump.

it was either the leak, or the fact that i didnt remove the piston thing in the side, which goes to the Hicas solenoid.

anyway i got a replacement pump, and this time removed the piston thing for the HICAS. pump worked fine for 1 day, then went completly.

ive tried routing the Hicas take-off back to the resivour, but still nothing.

did i buy a broken pump?

did i break the pump by not routing to the resivour first?

really stuck in a rutt at the mo, as i cant get my hands on a NA pump, and

not sure if wana get another TT pump,

but plenty on here have the TT pump without Hicas???

thanks mate, will let you know, (is it an NA pump?)

just want to know others that have defo got a TT Pump on a car with no Hicas,

and what methods did they do when blocking off/or running a new pipe to the fluid resivour?

People just loop the pipe that goes to the Hicas rack, back onto the return pipe....there are various method but something like this does the trick :

If you do opt for an NA pump like I have, then you will need the NA Resevoir and the NA Pump Bracket - The advantage of this is that its a fair bit lighter and tidier.

thanks legrath,

have you removed the piston inside the pump?

or is there no need to?

think iv either bougtht a broken pump,

or messed up removing the piston but not routing the take-off back to the resivour

There's no need to with that method. That pic is from Z1 site.

I went with the Full NA setup on mine.

Z1 method is routing the pipe back to the pot

its just ive tried 3 methods, and havent had luck. ive tried...

1) just blocking the Hicas take off up, without routing back to the resivour, with the piston still in.

2) tried another pump, removing the piston, then blocking off.

3) ive tried the same pump with the piston removed, routed to the resivour.

if all of these 3 methods work, i can only asume that the 1st pump just died of natrual causes. (did have a leak, so suspect that)

and the second pump i can only asume that was broke when got it, or removing the piston messed things up.

im going to get a third pump now, which method of the above is going to be the best/safest.

its costing me a lot of money to get the steering sorted :(

Best method IMO is to get the full NA setup.

2nd best is to route the Hicas pipe back to resevoir as per link and pic above. There is another version that completes the loop at the hicas rack instead of at the Hicas solenoid, but I cant find that one now.

thanks, do you need to remove the piston front the pump or not?

thanks, do you need to remove the piston front the pump or not?

no. As i said above, there is no need to when just looping the pipes.
