I thought you might like to see the inside of the clear corners 99 spec led rear lights. I have to say im pretty shocked at how its put together considering the cost.

Pants! Just need to get some PCBs with SMD LEDs in them! I've approached a few companies about it and the cost is prohibitive...well...if you wanted to pay Clearcorners' prices they wouldn't be.

I think there will be enough demand, they can be used in oem spec also, you have the aus market etc, distribution through z traders and centres and it would still work out cheaper than clear corners. The only thing to remember is that you get the 99 spec lights with these from clear corners.

Also solve alot of peoples rear fog dilemmas

Do you have any rough idea on costings Si?

so when will you be doing mine :lol:

I would need to get hold of the pcbs, they are hard to get that size domestically, wouldnt take too long to mount on the board, but i would use the larger 5050 smds, easier to solder.

The clear corners have variable resistor pots on the rear of the light unit to adjust brightness, but to be honest they are not really needed.

Yeah, it's about 1k all in. That's the board design, the cutting, the SMD LEDs...which are peanuts. Time on the pick and place machine + setting. Then there's manufacturing the wiring harness on top, but that shouldn't be that expensive. It's the PCBs and their appearance and operations which is paramount and needs to look professional.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

ime going to make my own out of christmas tree lights

:innocent::lol::lol:

Is that 1K just for the set up then, whatever after its designed. I would be up for that as i think the market for these is huge, well huge in the zedworld, especially at the right price. The US market alone would more than cover the costs of set up.

Maybe we should have a few of us chip in, if its feasible, as i think once the design is spot on, the world is your oyster

Yeah it would. I've done quite a bit of market research over on 3ZC. It could be supplied in kit form with instructions rather than what clear corners do.

Well, the price I got was to do that per set of 4. Not sure on volume amounts though. I need to ask a few other customers of mine to see if they'd take it on. It's a shame I don't have any contacts in China, although I probably could get something set up out there provided I had the design.

I agree, i think China is the place to get a run on the go. I will do some homework on that front also, there are many lighting manufacturers that i deal with who have dealings with the factories direct.

Ok, I'll see if I can ask a few questions with my colleagues as I am doing a show with them in London on Thursday.

Graham, will you just be manufacturing Tail Lights in LED? - It would be great if you done rear markers and indicators too, more people would possibly buy them if they knew they could get a complete set from you, especially if you could replicate the look of these ones:

- also, will the leds indicators need electronic flasher units?

- I assume these will be a doddle when compared to a set of tails..

Graham has already done mine and they look much nicer than the pic you posted:shifty:

Cheers Dave.

I think seeing the line of light spoils the effect, its best to get a complete glow, but if you send me your rear bumper reflectors i can led them up.

Indicators: if you went down the route of doing all the car indicators in led then you can get a replacement flasher relay, that evens the load to flash at the correct speed.

If you just have a couple done, then a load resistor is needed on each light to simulate the load of a filament bulb.

And as for manufacturing the 99 specs, a way off yet, still in the planning process, i dont want to have to solder by hand 4 lots of 185 leds :crying: =740 by the way :1eye:

Si, I have contacts in China - and my honey speaks Mandarin and Cantonese (and spanish and english!!) - we have had some success in various sectors forming relationships and doing some import etc. But I would say that China would be overkill for this project - you should look at 'former' Eastern Bloc countries for this kinda work, you get better quality and prices than China. :yes:

Cheers Dave.

LOL - No worries - Would it be possible if either you or Dave post up a pic of the rear marker so I can see it please? - I quite liked the line of the light, but then I haven't seen anything else to compare it too.. Cheers

I was looking at these a few years back for my Supra.... but Ohhhh wayyyy tooooo expensive....

Graham your idea for a cheaper alternative is really good, I'd be in on it or at least be up for a set............:)
