Vibration from rear of car....is it propshaft?...

My car has developed a vibration between 70-80mph, which I think may be propshaft related.(not wheel balance)

What are the parts to replace, and how much am I looking at?

I seem to remember someone mention the 'centre bearing' and 'uv joints' can be at fault.

Hi Jez

Funnily enough mine is going in to a garage this Friday to have it looked at. Can let you know ehn it is done if you like. The people there are going to give it a 100k km service (bargain at £390) and do an electronic balance and tracking to have a look, if this does not sortr it out then I will have to investigate more seriously.

Do a search on TTnet. Lots of posts. If not tyres etc, could be centre bearing on prop. Appears at a specific road speed. Forget details - check TTnet.

also consider the gearbox rear mount.

i had my centre bearing changed, and forgot the gearbox mount. it cured the vibrations for a few weeks, then they came back.

sometimes they are worse than others, and i think if i had done both, it might have been a whole lot longer lasting....

considering the torque generated, it's not surprising the gearbox mount gets a bit stretched as well...

Craig,

Where did you get the parts from, and how much did they cost?

Will my local garage mechanic be able to fit them easily enough?

The vibrations seem to be getting worse, and I do seem to be getting an occasional 'clunk' from the transmission in the last week, which wasn't present before.

The problem has only arisen since I let my wife drive back from Derbyshire a couple of weekends ago...before that all I had was a vibration in the steering, which was temporarily cured by a wheel balance.

The motto is...don't let your wife anywhere near your Z!

Vibrations! HELP

i got my parts from courtesy nissan in the US.

the part numbers are on the part number page in the tech sec.

i only got the centre bearing though, if you are going to order, get the gearbox mount as well

i had mine fitted at a dealer, so i dont know how hard/easy a job it is.

I just put a brand new propshaft and gear box mountings on my 92 Non-turbo. What a difference. The car is smooth a silk. It cost £800 but it was worth it. If someone wants my old shaft which needs reconditioning give me a call. The turbo and normally aspirated have different propshafts.
