Just been watchin a program on older cars being in crashes and how much they have been caved in.

To be honest made me think again about buying an older car as some of the damge is horrific. Oviously all cars where different and in its day the 300zx was far ahead of time with its style etc. So was wondering if anybody is aware of what star rating the z gets and if the have any videos. Tried searching the net for this informatiuon on the car. Can the zed with stand a high speed without crumpling?

P.S nearly 2 years on this site and just realised how to edit titles.lol!!

No star rating as that was before the advent of NCAP and EURONCAP etc.

But it's a pretty solid machine.

What Si said......

......Whilst the Z32 was designed before manufacturers went mad with air bags and seat belt tensioners, the late 1980s and early 1990s saw most car makers stepping up safety features. The Z32 was designed as a 155mph+ car so the passenger compartment was built to withstand impact well. Plus at £35k; it was the most expensive Japanese car sold in Europe (pre NSX and Mk4 Supra); so Nissan probably afforded it with safety features perhaps not featured in their "lesser cars."

You only have to search the forums for pictures of ZX accidents where the occupants have walked away to see how well the Z32 fares!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Is that at a 30mph crash in the video si?

I had just thought the other day ive never actually read anything about a z32 crash so really wanted to know about this.

Ive seen loads of pics and the main structures seem to hold up really well.

At the end of the day our bodys/internals can only take an impact of about 30mph

You've been watching 5th gear. And are probably most bothered most about the Shogun hitting the old civic side on. Horrific and made me think as well.

But remember that shogun hit the civic side on at 60mph. Not even a new 5 series or something equal will stand up to that! You're dead in an instant!

Paying more attention at junctions etc and being aware of others around you will go along way to keeping you safe.

That test simulated a Civic pulling out of a junction on the Shogun.

You can bet that if it was in an NCAP crash test now it would fair very badly. Todays small hatchbacks get much better ratings than Large cars from 10 years ago.....

I'd still rather crash in a Z than a Micra though, even if the micra has a better crash rating.

one of the shows did a New Renault espace in a head-on with an older Renault Espace. The newer model literally drover straight through the older one
