anyway i have photo'd them in the box for you to have a look at.

the ballasts are not the slim type but this does not bother me.

i cannot fit just yet as my wife is wrapping them and putting them away for my birthday on the 8th march, she will not let me have them early :cursing:

i went for the 55w type as i believe these are a bit brighter, this is stamped on along with 6000k and H3, so it is hoped i do have 55w as they look no different in the box from 35w ones.

ps. they were £38 delivered.

what great news!!!!!

i cannot fit mine to the dipped until the 8th my birthday.

i cannot wait. :tt2:

will be worth the wait, aint done my z ones yet as i need to look at the wiring the previous owner has done, might have a look on my days off

Dont make me re-read all that again lol.

So,whats best, 35watt or 55watt?Ive only installed one HiD set onto a Jeep Cherokee. No idea what wattage they were but I wasnt hugely impressed with them,as the original lights were pretty good with ice white bulbs. They hooked up no probs, just more time consuming routing the wires neatly, but when the Jeeps owner reported back to me after a drive,he was very happy with the difference.I found them too 'blue'.Maybe the were lower wattage?

The colour is defined by the Temp rating - 4600k, 6000k, 8000k ...etc

The higher the number the more blue the output..and less light output you actually get. The lower the number thh whiter and brighter.

They also work best on Ellipsoid style healights (like the Z has) rather than convential halogen housings.

Concur with the above. HID bulbs aren't good when installed in a "reflector" type headlight (like the Z32 high-beam). They work best with "projector" (aka ellipsoid) headlights (like the Z32 dip-beam).

In fact, having installed a H4 bi-xenon HID kit in my wife's MX5 (Mk2) with reflector type headlights, I found that the beam pattern was all over the place and lots of internal light scattering (causing excessive light dispersion to oncoming vehicles). Took them out after only a few weeks and reverted back to good old halogen bulbs.

Yes, and if you put HIDs in the main beam you lose the ability to flash the headlights.

The dipped beam should be more than adequate and is brighter than the main beam, even with uprated Halogen or Xenon bulbs

I noticed that too,the ones I fitted had a little adjustment, there were small screws you could loosen and then turn the bulb in the holder to adjust the patern.Bit of a hassle.

Oh well, next set am gonna get will be 4600 or 6000 if theyre whiter.

just an update to the lead post in this thread, i have fit the hid's and they are superb.

very simple fit on my j-spec, no fiddling and adapting needed, can take as little as 10 mins but take your time and tidying ballasts up, etc, give yourself a good 30mins.

used the original rubber gromet as well as the one in the kit, just needs to be fed through one multi plug wire at a time, care needs to be taken when offering the bulb through into the headlight and seating correctly and then getting the clip over, but all very easy.

i have included lots of pics, all the links for the bulbs i have are in this thread and are now all fitted.

i had the car tested on the 9th and it went straight through  with no advisories, no mention of the xenons at all or the alignment, so i must have it all spot on.

i recommend with confidence this kit.

not sure what to do with the ballasts, should i hide them in the front as they will just reach or keep them on show? certainly don't want them just loose as the passenger side is currently. if i could say anything against this kit is that the ballasts are chunky, i have not looked but if you can get slimline 55w ballast then they would be better.

keep your halogen bulbs in the boot as these can be put back in seconds, no problem should the hid's fail for some reason.

come on in the water's lovely!!!! :nana2:

Thanks for the fitting info and pics :)

Yes, and if you put HIDs in the main beam you lose the ability to flash the headlights.

no you dont, all you do is earth one wire ,problem solved

newsiggy.jpg

yeah, slightly different types of fixes for this....

you never "lose the ability to flash the headlights" it's just not ideal to flash the high beams when it will turn off the HIDs...

The "one earthed wire" will fix this only for when the HIDs are on.... if you have no lights on at all then that fix will flash both the main ands HIDs.. not good for HID longevity....

Here in the UK (the roads are very different to in Oz) and due to this drivers regular flash their high beams to invite other drivers to go/proceed from an obstruction or pull in front of them (in contradiction to the road rules).

So we find ourselves flashing our lights a lot….

The full fix (link bellow) is the best way… but requires more work….

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=117007&referrerid=16305

I meant HIDs don't fire up quick enough to flash as a main beam buld set..... not that with HIDs in DIPPED, you can't flash the halogen heads.

Ah, I see... yeah not a good idea to have HID main beams if you want to flash them (and want them to last ).... unless you flash the front FOG lights (lol as long as you have them and they're not HID's as well) :)

Got HID fogs.... see my earlier post in this thread. I've put 120w halogens in the main and the HIDs hide them on anything except a country road with a long straight. Then they do help but otherwise no. Local driving with dipped and fogs on (Albeit a bit illegal if it's not foggy) is like seeing daylight !

They are awesome....

Yes, Jeff at zedworld fiitted them and I think he used the trick of earthing one of the wires in the connection..... Jeff can you explain please ?

I've also done mine.... so I can use/flash the main beam and the HID's stay on....

I'll be fitting my front fogs soon and will use them to flash at people when the HIDs are not on.

Will most likely do the full mod when I get some time.

Having already done the pin 5 mod causing the dipped hid's to stay lit when you flash. :tt2:

This does not help at all when you flash in the daytime as the hid's are not used unless your a right poser!!!! :online2long:

So with days longer now I have disconnected the multi-plug from the ballasts and so I have put my xenons to sleep for the summer. :sleep1:

If I want lights i can put on the front fogs if its a little dull.

I dont use the car hardly ever after 6pm and the morning drive to work is at almost 8am, It is just a simple snap back in if I want them back on for an evening errand, but like all of us I have other vehicles I could use. Simples!!!

I was flashing the halogen full beam today at passing motorists as there was the old bill further down the road, I would deffo of not done this had I'd known I would be flashing the hid's. :thumbup1:

did you check the hids came on when you flash, dont think that mod does that, it just keeps low beam on when highs are on. Though i'll stand to be corrected

if you earth pin 5 you get what phutumusch says.....

when low beams (HIDs) are on you can flash the high beam and the low beam stays on.

when no lights are on and you flash the high beam it also flashes the low beam.

the only way I know to do the full fix is as in the link in one of my previous posts.

Never really been happy with the location of my ballasts, especially the nearside where I just had it tucked away but loose.

But fear not in the drizzle today I have been re-locating under the nose panel with the help of these extensions with arrived very quick from an ebay seller

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360266390916&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I have been rained off but I will finish the job tomorrow and post pics of the new location but they do reach quite easily now. :cool3:

The extensions are for only the multi plugs part, for the spade connectors that go to your lights you need to just make up some yourself with spades and all that, simple job of course. :smartass:

Had a nicer day sunday weather wise and was able to finish off the xenon job. :cool3:

With the extensions stated and linked above, i was able to locate both ballasts in the nose panel, which you can say now is kinda full with these, the dual horns and the boost controller.

Everything is now hidden after taking the time to feed all the cables through and cable tieing together. Both ballasts are bolted down and secure, you can see from the engine bay pics there is nothing there anymore!!!

At the bulb end which of course is easily accessable, I have one wire disconnected and tailed off as I don't need the HID's in summer and I can now flash all I like without being concerned that this is hassling the xenons.
