Why oh why is it that when I want to buy something from blokes on this site I get the same answer..." make me an offer ". But when someone wants something from me they ask "what do you want for it mate". In Yorkshire we have a system called buying and selling for a set price. If you are selling something and you want £10 for it you say " the price is £10 if you want it give me £10 ". This also has the opposite affect so if one wants to buy something one knows the price ie £10! If we could roll this system out to the lesser counties business would become much less complicated I think :thumbup1::biggrin:

Exactly....man after my own heart you must have some Yorkshire roots matey

THe fact both people no how much its worth but no to fussed about getting the price the item is worth, so make an offer = bargain for the buyer if they dont take the piss?

Just my suggestion.

you dont want to take the piss and offer way too low. but you dont want to pay too much either LOL

Maybe not Yorkshire but i ain't that far away lol

My Dad brought me up in straight forward business and i'd rather just talk straight when it comes to business rather than pussy foot around, just the way i prefer it done.

the one that gets me is.. Whats the lowest you will take for it mate?..... WEll its the f**king asking price isnt it you twat!

Couldn't agree more Isaac......

I hate that with a passion - When I was selling Julia's old cars, anyone who asked me that on the phone was told "Come and see the car and, if you like it, make me an offer. Otherwise just piss off and stop wasting my time....."

OK I may have put of a few "buyers" but I wasn't desparate to sell so who cares......:sleep1:

Richard:gun_bandana:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Fully agree offers threads are pointless on forums, if you do your research you can check ebay or search to see what an item is selling for.

What you think its worth and what people are willing to pay are usually far apart these days.

Well im selling items from my breaker and know the value of the items. But end of the day i want all the parts gone so if somebody comes to me with a reasonable offer i would sell it to them. bargain for them 1 less item for me.

most people who say "make me an offer" know what the item is worth but are hoping the buyer doesnt and offers a bit more, if he doesnt offer the correct amount the seller will say "i was looking for a bit more than that", which in turn boils my piss cause you know the seller knows what he wants for it so why doesnt he just fokin say it

Its the same with testing water/guaging interest threads, its either for sale or it isnt, it just wastes peoples time, people genuinely looking a car and then the buyer backs out.

This is why i only buy and sell on forums that have these 2 rules

Prices must be stated

No guaging interest.

:rofl: if only the world was as easy as this thread...buying and selling is very fluid and whats worth summit today has another value tomorrow depending on a few factors...how skint you are...how rare the item is or becoming...how much you know that the buyer needs it...and are you expecting the bailiffs any day:scared:. the same goes for you the buyer, as new a tire on the hard shoulder of the M6 at 10.30pm friday night when yours is in tatters is worth a lot more to you than a sunny sunday morning when your on top of the missus working up a sweat:whistling: so in short price has no price as its all relative to needs...

gauging interest is just a ploy to get people to tell you not to sell to build up your self asteem (spelling lol) and so on, they get a bit down and need a pick me up so offer something possibly for sale to get members to tell them not to and make them feel good only to say "cheers guys, but its not for sale now"

apart from 8ace who actually sold his car lol

think we all have Allan at some stage:devil2:

Yeah, it's really annoying, you either want to sell or you don't.

The other one's that get me are, when you see a car parked at the side of

the road with a4 sheet in the window, declaring fsh, mot etc.... but no

******* price!, some don't even have a number, just 'apply within', apply

within where? The car is on a grass verge at the side of the road!

These ones are usually in a hard to 'quickly park up and have a look' place, so

they should have a price in BIG numbers on the screen to catch your

attention as you drive by and not waste your time having to do a 968

point turn in someones driveway to go back for a look.

Also the adds with 'POA' (price on application) after them, wtf is that all

about! Do i have to apply to buy your car? Do you actually know how

much you want for it, or are you just going to make up a price depending on

what time of day it is when i ring you?

what pees me off is when somone asks me for a price and I price an item a lot lower than its worth/going for e.g. worth £100 secondhand but I have priced it to sell at say £40 and they don't get back to you .....do they want it for fricken nothing! :yes:lol....

Mackam Maz Sorry to Hi-jack the thread but i couldnt help notice that your Avatar pic is my car from a photo shoot a few years back :)

Is it? I got it from here somewhere I hope you dont mind Ill take it off if not. It just combined my 2 passions Z's and near naked ladies lol

Typically If I get a "Make me an offer" reply , the seller doesn't hear from me again.

I thought that was a legal thing...your not allowed to advertise a car for sale on the public highway....and not putting price gets around that ?
