I recently purchased the fast and furious box set.

Been watching them all and other car films i have and why is it the 300zx doesnt seem to feature in these, is it becasue you dont see it much at drifiting tracks or is it just becoming a forgotten car, or is it because it will show them all up.

any links on the net to this rumour?

looks chav tastic.lol

apparently the story behind the first film is that the character raced in a 300. you can see the rear of one briefly in the closing credits but thats it.

I would say because the 300zx hasnt really been that much of a "scene" car be it with drifting or track racing, the silvias, ae86 toyotas, rx7s, were the big drift cars, GTR's were in the equivalent DTM in japan/australia. 300zx did make an appearance in imsa racing but until i'd seen the steve millen one i'd never even heard of imsa.

Add to this the favourable and possibly cheaper/easier tuning of the skyline and supra engines the 300zx was kinda always the odd one out.

You could possibly say the same about the Mitsubishi GTO.. It never really gets much said about it anymore, but I am a strong believer in that if the 300ZX makes an appearance or gets a good role in a movie like F&F, prices will go up - or the cheap examples which are available will be exploited by boy racers lol..

Another thing I just thought of, are the Supras and Skylines only more tunable because the engine bays are easier to work around i.e. More accessible than the 300zx bay.. which looks like everything has been shoe-horned in.. or is the 300zx (VG)engine.. just not as good (tunable) as the 2JZ and RB26?

Hope some of you may like this video anyways, this thread sort of reminded me of an old jap film.. Shuto Kousoku (Freeway Speedway)

the whole spark to the F&F series of films was based on a real life street racer who had a modded Z32...his interview and counter culture lifestyle he lived gave the producers the idea for the movie...basically a script was adapted around the scene...trouble was they never seemed to give a fig as to respecting the man who provided the inspiration in the first place...seeing as most films are made through marketing dept's first (to hit the widest audience) i reckon they did a american DVLA check on jap cars and picked the top 5 imports/ sellers by volume and used them in the film
