5000k Main beam H1 Bulbs - MOT Legal?

I have just had my dipped beams converted to HID's and love the light that they give. I have changed my sidelights to a bulb that matches the colour of the new HID's much better.

I wanted to change my main beam H1 bulbs to these:

But I don't know the legality of these as main beam bulbs. My HID's are a 6000k colour temperature but I can't find H1 bulbs that are 6000k rated.

Does anyone know the legality of these bulbs for road use or if there are 6000k colour rated bulbs available which give a really good beam and throw as I use this car at night A LOT!!

Thanks for the help in advance - Cyrus:helpsmilie::helpsmilie:

Xenon H1 55 watt is what you need, MOT legality is ok and will look similar to your HID dip beam.

Are these replacement bulbs legal?

Yes. Xenon or other replacement bulbs rated at the same wattage as your existing bulbs and are e-marked. If you use your vehicle for off road, display or racing, higher wattage bulbs are available.

Hi Cyrus,

As Jeff says - yes; upgrading your bulbs is fine and legal (assuming of course that the bulbs are CE marked......)

And anything made by Phillips will be good quality.

As for the colour of the light - I personally do not care as unless you do the "earth" modification then the dipped lights go off when you switch to full beam!

For me, overall light performance means more than visual effect. So I have gone with Auto Express's recommendations following their product testing. Phillips Xtreme power or Osram Nightbreaker are the only bulb upgrades worth shouting about. The ion coating on "blue bulbs" simply reduces the actual light output.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Stick to Aftermarket Xenon bulbs for Main beam.......HID's dont like to be flashed on and off...plus they have a delay in warming up to full brightness which makes them not suitable for Main beam.
