Nothing too exciting here, a usual run of the mill leaking fuel tank in for change, you can clearly see the leak is in the all to common place under the corroded support strap.

What though I wondered was your thoughts on the exhaust? its one of those made to measure one`s that are very popular these days and provided they are done well are ok if a little expensive.

However this one has had the two rear silencer box brackets bolted directly to the fuel tank? it is one of those moments where you look at something and say no that`s not right :( but, well I dunno really its secure, insulated and not really a very heavy silencer, BUT again it just feels wrong, what do you think???

Christ that's poor! LOL

Is it a Powerflow!?

Mmm....yep

wouldn't that of helped the fuel leak? id imagin the vibrations from that accelerates the fuel tank leak problem

Shoddy workmanship, someone has taken the quick and easy route.

Although the exhaust will be secure enough "for the time being" the tank isnt designed to support any weight or vibration at that point. Although the chances are probably slight there is danger of damage to the tank imho.

Mmm....yep

Now why doesn't that suprise me!? Powerflow are utter shite! Seriously would rather have drainpipe glued to my downpipes. Wouldn't probably be better quality materials at the very least!

Since those tank straps are designed for the tank plus fuel, I would have thought any extra load added would be detrimental.

Being a fuel tank, is it worth the risks?

Also, any vibration to the tank from the exhausts is gonna surely kick up any dregs from the bottom of the tank straight into your fuel line....Nice!

Surely there would be allot of movemet in a exhaust system.

Hence why it is suspended with rubber thingys.

So surely that is a bad idea as the force of the movement has to go some where and possibly which may of caused the leak?

e.g. the exhaust moving which then meant the gas tank moving which then you have friction and would where it down very slowly where it makes contact with any other metal parts.

Doesn't fuel and hot exhaust equal BOOM ?

Luck the whole thing didn't go up in flames !

yeah that's not good my mates scooby had a similar bodge on it & it shook all through the car, also that would be shaking the fuel tank too, aiding in wear etc another thing is when on rubber mounts it alowes natural movement etc but now that would put stress on the other end of the exhaust i would assume??

a friend of mine had a strong smell of petrol in his 200sx. The garage looked at loads of different things.

Turns out it was the cd auto changer screwed into the boot floor and through the petrol tank:smash:

As far as i can remember i think it was the same garage as fitted the auto changer. Aint nissan main dealers great

On my mates scooby his exhaust was welded to the car and had no rubbers :rofl:

We cant see the other mounts holding the rest of the rear box up on the picture .

it may have other hanger mounts to surport it ?

not ideal but not the end of the world i think . theres worse things could be wrong . lol

I would imagine this would be a serious safety issue in case of a rear end collision.

Exhaust is one of the things that is hit first and in this case it could take the tank with it or rip it open.
